I was a Staff Officer at a field command post during a military training exercise several years ago.
A Three Star General came in to evaluate my performance.
I gave him a quick briefing on how things were going.
He stopped me in mid-sentence and asked me to define a word I had spoken.
I was confused. I assumed he understood the word I used (I can’t remember the exact word now).
I tried to explain. He cut me off.
“Words have meanings”, he explained. ‘They have specific meanings. If we all don’t understand and agree to the meaning of a word, then there is misunderstanding, and misunderstandings cause problems that can ruin everything.”
I learned a hard lesson that day. I am forever grateful to that General who taught me that lesson.
More people need that lesson.
Impeachment.
Not a hard word.
Our common understanding in our nation is that, as it applies to our President, it is a method to officially remove the President from office.
It does not mean a method to prevent a former President from serving again. It does not mean a method to publicly embarrass a former President. It does not mean a way for Nancy Pelosi to exact childish revenge.
Words have a meaning.
They have an exact meaning.
If we all don’t understand and use them the same way, there can be misunderstandings and misunderstandings can cause big problems.
Big problems.
Problems way out of proportion to the childish feelings of the Speaker of The House.
Problems that can ruin everything.
Pelosi misunderstands the meaning of Speaker of the House. She thinks it means Queen.
Thanks for your good post.
Everything already is ruined.
The word, “Election,” used to mean something, too.
You are, unfortunately, correct.
You are welcome.
Then get up and help make it right.
As did "Constitution".
“Then get up and help make it right.”
Naw, I’d rather just sit here and complain. I’m told I’m pretty good at it.
Seriously, it’s all about the schools, and nothing is going to be fixed quickly, if ever.
Similar story: as a JAG Captain, I was the legal advisor to a 2-star. He had a disciplinary issue with a senior NCO and asked, “Jake, what do you think I should do?”. I started outlining his options, and he stopped me and said, “I know what I CAN do - I asked you what you think I SHOULD do.”
A great lesson, taught by a great leader, in private. I’ve never forgotten it.

Words don’t mean anything to the current breed of Democrats: there’s not abiding reason for any of them to worry about defining terms or “being precise”. The “gesture” , the “symbolism” of the act of impeachment takes precedence over the legalistic meaning of the word.
Article 1 Section 3 states that the Chief Justice shall preside -- but he isn't. So this isn't a real impeachment trial.
Article 1 Section 3 also contains a crucial AND:
Judgement in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States
It's a "logic" thing. The "and" is not casual. First you remove, AND then you disqualify. If you cannot do they first thing, then you cannot do the second thing. They cannot remove THEREFORE they cannot disqualify.
This is a Bill of Attainder and nothing less. The Legislature is voting to punish someone who displeases them. That's also unconstitutional.
Then teach your children. Teach your grandchildren.
It took one small child to make all the citizens of the kingdom realize how cowardly they were in complimenting the naked king in the story The King’s New Clothes.
No more. The Demonicrats provide the meaning, which the enemydia parrot. And the meaning can change, or even switch to that of the word's antonym if it benefits the leftists. For example, check the change in meaning in Merriam-Webster's definition of "sexual preference."?
Employment, medical, and other forms used to have people identify their sex (male or female). Now, in addition to male and female, the forms have more than a dozen perverted options from which a person can select even an imagined "gender identity."
I like your word “travesty” and the way you broke it down in just a few sentences. Your observation as regards logic is the crux of the matter because so few in DC are able to operate logically with guidance from common sense.
If we as a nation cannot agree on the meaning of the word “impeachment” then what other words will we find new meanings for?
Theft?
Lying?
Murder?
Words don’t mean anything to the current breed of Democrats: there’s no abiding reason for any of them to worry about defining terms or “being precise”. The “gesture” , the “symbolism” of the act of impeachment takes precedence over the legalistic meaning of the word.Just getting it out there monopolizing the news cycle for a week or more is enough to feel “mission accomplished”-—in addition, they make of it a partisan display of “principles” when they give so much attention to sleaze like Liz Cheney as a conscience-stricken Republican boldly separating himself from the “renegade” populations of Republicans who on this issue and possibly mostly this issue alone,(who knows? time will tell) are against the farce of “impeachment”.

The Democrats love words.
The vast majority of lawyers are Democrats.
Lawyers make their money with words.
The Ministry of Truth has great power. It is far easier to change words when they are on the Internet than it was back when Winston had to sit at a desk to change what was written in paper books in 1984
