"Saved by the Bell" star Dustin Diamond died Monday after a three-week fight with carcinoma, according to his representatives. He was 44.
"Dustin did not suffer. He did not have to lie submerged in pain. For that, we are grateful," Diamond's team said in a statement to the Associated Press and "Entertainment Tonight."
Diamond, best known for playing Screech on the hit '90s sitcom, was hospitalized last month in Florida and his team disclosed later that he had cancer.
Former co-star Mario Lopez took to Twitter to say farewell: "Dustin, you will be missed, my man. The fragility of this life is something never to be taken for granted."

Bye Dustin. Thanks for the laughter.
He had a difficult time finding his place in life after leaving the TV series. It happens to a lot of child actors.
So long Screech (that would probably irritate him - as he really stuggled to find a life outside of Saved By The Bell... he was awfully type cast with that role...
My 1st onscreen love Dustin Diamond got his Angel wings today...
- Before there was David and Donna there was Screech and Violet. Dustin was my first on-screen kiss. He welcomed me with open arms onto the set of Saved By the Bell. As one can imagine being the newbie on a hit show was overwhelming for a 14-year-old girl. He not only showed me around but made sure I was always ok. Such a young gentleman. He was kind, smart, and always making everyone laugh. He was a great scene partner. He was a really good guy. I’m sad after the show we never had much contact aside from occasionally running into each other at events. I’m glad he’s out of pain. He’s an icon to me professionally and personally. RIP Samuel love, your Violet ❤️

He was funny in his role. RIP.
I don’t know why I find this so very sad.
I guess being 52, the mid 40s seems so young to die.
My mother is 88 and she still drives and goes out every day.
Luck of the draw I guess
RIP
Yep. Some of us are genetic time bombs just ticking and about to go off.
three-week fight
Huh?
His lungs had to have been exposed to some real toxic stuff over a period of time. But I don’t think it’s the mold in cheap motels. Lots of people stay at cheap motels but they are not dying of lung cancer in their 40s.
Yeah it’s crazy.
I’ve started changing my diet because it was just awful for 20 years.
But thank God I didn’t get any illnesses or diabetes or heart trouble.
But at 52, it’s past time to act. God’s been good to me, no reason to push it!
I never watched the show, but that is one sweet memory from Tori.
genetic quirk..something triggered it
happened to a family member of mine
similar issues to Dustin and the medical community had all kinds of excuses and wouldnt really listen... until they finally caught it too late
bttt
I would say that we all get exposed to it, but for some people, that just triggers it. Boom, they get cancer and they're dead. Rest of us, we are resistant to it.
someone here knows someone at the american cancer society or research lab or similar. Cant remember.
she said that they think genetics plays a huge role. and this quote stuck out....you could swim in asbestos and not get cancer unless you have the quirk
not sure I believe that..might be hyperbole..but the point it taken
It’s all speculative. Who knows why some people get sick with things while others get away with the same thing? Environment, genetics, bad luck, stress... multiple factors may be at play. Apparently his autobiography detailed a lot of teen pot smoking. You never know what kind of pesticides etc are involved in that crap. God rest his soul. 44 is too young. R.I.P.
Agreed. A friend who has never smoked or drank alcohol in his life has been hit with throat cancer, lung cancer & prostate cancer. He was cleared about 6 months ago and the lung cancer is back.
It's tough to watch, he has to know he has a bulls eye on his back.
