A couple things would have happened if Pence unilaterally ignored the election results in the Senate.
1) The Democrats would immediately sue and it would go before the Supreme Court within 24 hours and overturned. Even a Republican Majority could not allow it as it would create the Precedent of any future Democrat Vice President being given the authority to unilaterally void an electoral college and Congressional certification vote. It was always a ludicrous argument.
2) Pence would be promptly impeached by Pelosi and likely would have to resign or face a Senate trial.
The only thing it may have done was stop the riot and insurrection and make Pence a folk hero to millions and likely 2024 front runner in the primary. It wouldn't have given Trump a second term though.
Well......we thought and hoped Kracken might really and the German military story had legs but in the end the fraud was craftily conducted and short of seizing computers in a bunch of states, the. writing was on the wall.......
A few GOP congressmen wanted to make the public aware one the need to clean up the process in state after state but the anarchists seized the media attention and the rest is history. Now if you mention election fraud you can be run out of congress......
Whatever noob. In any case, Pence did absolutely nothing to even point out the rampant fraud. The idiot vacationed in Florida the week after the election at the height of the fraud.
So ok troll, do YOU thing the election was stolen?
No democrat - it was the democrats that did both of those attacks.
Actually, caww, there are some quite good posts in this thread about how the process actually is supposed to work, what authority Pence did and did not have, details about what actually came out of the states (slates of electors), what state legislatures did and did not do, and so on.
Yes, there is quite a bit of chaff & incorrect information, but, sometimes that’s what brings out extended information.
To those participating “flamelessly” in presenting detailed information, I thank you!
Under what authority?
Hey, Are you pences campaign manager?
Pence would not have been the deciding factor unless he was forced to vote as a tiebreaker.
He could reject the electors, forcing the states’ representatives to decide what they believe their constituents wanted.
If the split was 50/50, then he’d decide.
Exactly!!
It’s a shame I had to read 20 comments before finding one that made sense.
Except that was not what Pence was asked to do
Some of the states in question sent a letter to Pence asking him to adjourn the meeting for 10 days to give them time to sort out the fraud in their own states. That is the only thing he was asked to do. It would have been constitional. Pence was a coward and sent a misleading letter as if he were asked to overturn the official count
“In 2020, IT WAS DIFFERENT. The legislature and the governor were NOT IN AGREEMENT on the electors to choose but the legislature ABDICATED their authority.”
The Republican led Michigan state legislature said Biden won in 2000. I don’t know where you get your info from if you think otherwise.
““In 2020, IT WAS DIFFERENT. The legislature and the governor were NOT IN AGREEMENT on the electors to choose but the legislature ABDICATED their authority.””
I forgot to mention that the Michigan Legislature kept the PDJT electors locked out of the state capitol on the day the EC was to meet in that building and vote.
I think I said 7 states. Just to be obnoxious I’ll let you look it up for yourself. Its easy to find.
Sure he could. He’s not there to just rubberstamp it.
He has a role to accept the electors, and there is absolutely nothing saying he can’t reject them.
He could’ve been a hero and walked into the presidency in 2024. Instead he just ended his political career and gave the country over to the criminals that stole the election.
RE: I forgot to mention that the Michigan Legislature kept the PDJT electors locked out of the state capitol on the day the EC was to meet in that building and vote.
Regardless of what happened, I am sure you agree with me that the State’s LEGISLATURE, IN SESSION, should be the one choosing the electors, not outsourced to a committee or anyone else.
So, back to the topic ( the title ) of this thread — is it wrong for Pence to say as in the case of Wisconsin - “Your electors were not chosen according to law, and your legislators have written to me informing me that this is so. Therefore, I cannot accept your current slate of electors until your legislators OFFICIALLY tell me that they have chosen the state’s electors”?
I think not.
I really still don’t know squat about that stuff, but I’m with you. This was stupid.
I’s just saying, posts like yours usually get pilloried from 20 different members. Seems to me the most who post are EverTrumpers and they will not accept anything but Trump’s word, like devotion to a king.
Unfortunately, people tend to be attracted to the extreme ends of an argument. The old expression fits: There is my side of the story, your side of the story - and then there is the truth. I understand people are passionate in their beliefs, but all too often they allow their passions to override their reason, and then it becomes nearly impossible to hold a rational discussion. Of course, I too have fallen into this trap.
Agreed.
I could copy a NextDoor argument that might make the “extremists” on FR blush, but I won’t on this thread. It’s not conspiracy but arguing with leftist neighbors bring out the beast - in them, too.
You can see this “lack of rationality”, but in my case, it’s mostly because I’m desperately trying to get our side heard for a change instead of just shouted down. But of course I’m just called a racist (directly) and a KKK member (indirectly by guy who snidely commented to the direct person).
They talk about “conversation”, but they are full of it as surely as they are with anything else. I figure I’ll start in swinging.
No, you're getting called out for that.
The states did not submit two competing slates of electors. If the //state// submitted them, they would BOTH be certified by the state. They were not. One slate was certified.
So that's FAKE NEWS.
