Unfortunately, people tend to be attracted to the extreme ends of an argument. The old expression fits: There is my side of the story, your side of the story - and then there is the truth. I understand people are passionate in their beliefs, but all too often they allow their passions to override their reason, and then it becomes nearly impossible to hold a rational discussion. Of course, I too have fallen into this trap.

I could copy a NextDoor argument that might make the “extremists” on FR blush, but I won’t on this thread. It’s not conspiracy but arguing with leftist neighbors bring out the beast - in them, too.
You can see this “lack of rationality”, but in my case, it’s mostly because I’m desperately trying to get our side heard for a change instead of just shouted down. But of course I’m just called a racist (directly) and a KKK member (indirectly by guy who snidely commented to the direct person).
They talk about “conversation”, but they are full of it as surely as they are with anything else. I figure I’ll start in swinging.
