A potent storm system is targeting the Eastern Seaboard with an array of high-impact and potentially hazardous weather, bringing the worst of the clashing seasons just in time for Christmas. Strong winds, flooding rains and even severe weather are likely, with the risk of a few tornadoes adding to the unwelcome assortment.
"We’ll file this one under “things you probably didn’t want from Santa.”
Cities such as Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore and the nation’s capital are all in line for a wild ride, while cities farther south like Raleigh could be eyeing a tornado threat.
The meteorological mess accompanies a strong cold front, which will also yield a dramatic temperature drop into Christmas morning. Springlike warmth is expected ahead of the front, followed by temperatures crashing some 30 degrees or more. A few folks may even wind up with some festive snowflakes.
Weather alerts plaster the East Coast, with flood watches stretching from southern Virginia to extreme northern Maine and the Canadian border. Closer to the coast, it’s a high-wind warning, while winter storm warnings mark where a few places on the western side of the system are bracing for a good helping of snow.

Well, in Houston it was cold last night (For Houston)If I was still on Guam it would have been an emergency since nobody has heat in their house and nobody owns blankets.
I’m in a valley just east of Brasstown Bald mountain. Got way more than a ‘dusting’-more like 4 inches all together. Never saw such hard rain turn to snow like it did and then it stick so quickly. Figured it would melt quick but the temps dropped 15 degrees in just over an hour. Finally got the very first White Christmas ever in my 62 years but I’ll be happy when it’s gone. Got a funny feeling this won’t be the last of it-we still got a lot of winter left to deal with...
I believe it will be a tough winter and it’s just
beginning. Wooly catapillars etc.
In north central CT they predicted a massive storm, power outages, downed trees, etc. and a light rain all day with little to no wind.
Coastal South Carolina - house trembled @7:30 pm Xmas Eve. Woke up this a.m. Huge tree in the front yard had blown down.
Scary - but it was just one!!!!
Only here in Tampa we got cold weather. Today it is the coldest Christmas in 25 years.
It’s 56 degrees here in NH, crazy.
We’re expecting a big temp drop and freezing rain tonight.
Got the generator out and ready.
They (the power company) said to expect a multi day power outagestartung tonight.
We’ll see.
I'm about 20 miles west of Manhattan. It was pretty windy here overnight.
ML/NJ
I live a few hours outside NYC and we had torrents of rain and the wind did some real damage. There are roof shingles and debris all over. Tore some trim off of the house and our Shelter-Logic shed is shredded.
DelCo or Chester County?
Delco. Lots of outages.
Beware of falling iguanas in Florida
Swarthmore has a bunch, but they love their trees...
Beautiful neighborhood. Shame it’s infested with liberals.
I also had my cell phone buzzing all night with apocalyptic predictions warning everybody to hunker down and prepare for days without power. My lights didn't even so much as flicker.
Dumped a bit of snow round these arts, now the temp is dropping to single digit.
Is that this year? Or next?
We got a LOT of rain and then freezing temps down here in St. Augustine, Fl. It’s suppose to be 30 tonight. Not to bad if you have a heater, but, all we have on the boat is the oven. We are looking at a Kimberly furnace in the future.
I'm reminded of this oldie but goodie from the NY metro area from 2017: Feds knew blizzard forecast was exaggerated — but didn’t want to confuse us
