When China Live opened in 2017, it was a big deal in San Francisco. Totaling 30,000 square feet and four stories, it was a $20 million investment three years in the making.
Of the more than 200 employees it takes to run the place, he laid off 182 in March, and slowly hired a few back, so currently, 40 people are rattling around the giant building.
When One65 opened in 2019, it was like swinging open the doors to an entire department store or food hall filled with French revelations. Tall and narrow, it’s 20,000 square feet stacked up six floors, near the trolley car turnaround in Union Square.
Pre-pandemic, the building needed more than a hundred employees to run, but again, most were laid off, a few were rehired, and now only 15 people are manning the gigantic ship.
neither China Live nor One65 owns their buildings, and they still have to pay rent.
Stood in front of the Christmas and took a couple of pics. No one is in the pic.
From that vantage point I took a pic of Macy's across the street. One person in the pic
Went to Williams-Sonoma and Saks 5th Avenue - No one
9 days out from Christmas and 11:30 in the morning
Unreal
So what.. it’s SF. Sucks to be them, I guess.
Just order “Amazon, Amazon, Amazon, Online, Online, Amazon!” say the lisping Karens who complain about big business as they destroy small business.
Very depressing. Why are we letting them get away with this?
I read that morning that Newsom wants to be President, and the Dems are all excited about the idea.
“...When the city locks down, what do you do with thousands of square feet?...”
IF you’re gonna shutdown for good, quit paying any property taxes on it and just walk away.
The homeless crapping in the streets I bet doesn’t help either.
[[San Francisco’s Biggest Restaurants Are Eerily Empty When the city locks down, what do you do with thousands of square feet?]]
Let the homeless Crap in it of course
Seriously wouldn’t be surprised if elected officials are allowing homeless to squat in empty buildings now-
Corporate real estate is going to enter a whole new era.
I can’t really imagine how some of these spaces can be transformed for new uses. A hundred years ago, cities in the Northeast had great big brick buildings for millwork (ex. textiles). As those industries moved down south or overseas, the brick buildings stood vacant but later became high-end real estate (loft apartments) or new corporate settings.
I’m not sure that will happen to modern day corporate office parks or urban sites for fancy restaurants. I think we will see abandoned sites because there won’t be a real need for such spaces.
It’s San Francisco. The answer is entirely obvious.
Make all of these closed businesses and open retail space into services for the homeless who are welcomed and encouraged by their city government.
Most of their citizenry will view this as a win. Soup kitchens, safe drug injection/smoking sites with medical personnel on hand, housing for the homeless, and all kinds of counseling services will be all over the place planting the seeds for utopia.
Sure, there will be no tax base, but most will feel pretty good about things and they can just raise taxes on the rest.
I wish I was being sarcastic.
I would be all excited about his - candidacy. Unlike Bite-me, he couldn't pretend to be a moderate. No way that putz could be elected.
Advertise for Holiday parties to the politicians. They can open for them.
All that tax revenue...Gone like a freight-train, gone like yesterday
Gone like a soldier in the civil war, bang bang
Gone like a ‘59 Cadillac
Like all the good things that ain’t never coming back... (borrowed from Montgomery Gentry - that’s their double negative)
With all the work from home seemingly working out, how much of the once occupied office space will sit vacant? Less utilities, don’t need as much work attire, less commuting, less wear and tear on vehicles...... Less eatery use near once crowded work places. You see where this is going right. 😯
In San Francisco? Easy answer. Move in the homeless.
“No way that putz could be elected.”
After this election, I don’t think we can say that anymore.
Even if we were to take away the obvious voter fraud that propelled Biden to the White House, he still received at least 45% (if not more) of the popular vote. It speaks volumes that the American people were willing to vote for a mentally deficient clown like him.
And worse yet, it speaks volumes about where we’re going as a nation.
Let the homeless live in them/sarc
they should house the homeless! Already has plumbing and electric.
Oh wait!
The lockdowns are succeeding: Move most all communication & commerce to the digital realm, where it's easily monitored & manipulated by the tyrannical titans of TwiGgleBookAzon.
Wrong
It’s all going according to plan.
