“The play didn’t affect the vast majority . . .”
It’s clear that I wasn’t talking about that play or that game.

If the Cowboys lose Prescott, they may very well be the worst team in the NFL next season.

leaving their CB in single man on man coverageThat JETS CB is a walk on, non drafted rookie. I can't believe this defensive alignment wasn't called so they would intentional lose the game in the only possibly way available.
To: Red Badger
Wouldn’t he then be locked in to NFL “min wage” for the first four years?

That was Henry Ruggs III from the Crimson Tide I think. He is slightly faster than a cheetah cat.

I wasn't disagreeing with you. I was demonstrating for others how your point can be true without implying anything about the game being true.
Years ago when I was in prep school, a snotty underclassman who I didn't know was openly maintaining that his father had inside knowledge as to how the games are fixed. It would be the refs (lowest paid of those who influence the outcome, especially at the time [early '80s]). It would only take one ref to call or not call a hold or other low-visibility call at key moments.
The key was that only ONE game per weekend would be "fixed", that would be the game where the spread is "off" by a little bit to get the betting going one way . . . the WRONG way.
Now this was a long time ago, so there are a lot of reasons why things are done differently now, but nothing I have ever seen has made me think the kid's story was implausible.

Prevent defense and they may have won. They were in man coverage across the board and had people near the line of scrimage. The corner falls for a double move? This was on purpose.

But the NFL is a union shop, right? And rookies are on a 4 year deal with mandated salary levels? Otherwise all the studs would do what you said.

Brady was drafted. He was surprised he was drafted so late, though.Sixth round....

Gotcha, thanks for that clarification. I think post Nov 3, 2020 we have to assume everything is fixed in some way.

It’s called “Prevent Defense”. I think John Madden once said that it prevents the the team that uses it from winning.
The shocker was that it WASN'T a prevent defense on that last play. Gregg Williams called for an all out blitz leaving the receivers one on one. A "prevent" would have had extra DBs and a couple of deep safeties who's job was simply to allow them to catch any pass but keep them from getting to the endzone.
If there was ever a time for the "prevent", that was it.

Does seem a bit suspicious doesn’t it?

Joe Burrow wishes he had done so with the eternally-cursed Bengals. I don't think so. Burrow is an Ohio kid and was happy to go to the Bengals. When you're the Number One pick, by definition you're going to a bad team. Unless another team trades up to get the pick.

Miracle at the Meadowlands
On November 19, 1978 at Giants Stadium, the Giants were leading the Eagles 17–12 with 20 seconds remaining.
Offensive coordinator Bob Gibson called for a running play when all that was needed was for the Giants to take a knee.
The handoff between quarterback Joe Pisarcik and Larry Csonka was fumbled and Eagles cornerback Herman Edwards grabbed the loose ball and returned it [26 yards] for the winning score.
This play is commonly referred to as The Miracle at the Meadowlands by Eagles fans and just “The Fumble” by Giants fans.

There is a reason the Jets are 0 - 11. They are a very bad team.

You don’t throw a game with 5 seconds on the clock, the other team might miss. That’s called screwing up. Something they’ve been doing all season.
