About 17% of Cadillac’s 880 U.S. dealerships decide against spending for necessary upgrades
About 150 General Motors Co . dealers have decided to part ways with Cadillac, rather than invest in costly upgrades required to sell electric cars, according to people familiar with the plans, indicating some retailers are skeptical about pivoting to battery-powered vehicles.
GM recently gave Cadillac dealers a choice: Accept a buyout offer to exit from the brand or spend roughly $200,000 on dealership upgrades—including charging stations and repair tools—to get their stores ready to sell electric vehicles, these people said.

Most dealers who accepted the buyout also own one or more of GM’s other brands—Chevrolet, Buick and GMC—and sell only a handful of Cadillacs a month, the people familiar with the effort said.

We need. To build 20 new nuclear power plants in the next 10 years if we are serious about transitioning to EVs.
Each car have their own followers like ricers and Jeep Wrangler drivers (like me). I know someone who owned EIGHT Subaru cars and wont change brands.
Dealers starting to Go Galt.
Make it a self-driving car: "No need to come to the dealership to check out our new Autonomous Cadillac; we'll send it to you."
Don’t forget to upgrade the entire grid and distribution system while they are at it, if everything/everyone is going electric it will be required.
Cadillac quality is so abysmal now, it is far worse than even the bad 70’s. There are some real morons working at Cadillac. The Northstar engine disaster really started the avalanching downhill quality issues.
I expect to see big motion towards Lexus and Acura. The other luxury brands, Cadillac, Mercedes, Rover, Audi, etc will only be able to keep selling overly complex junk with atrocious resale for so long. I already know people who will never buy another VW or BMW after the huge maintenance costs when they get 60K miles and then take a bath trying to trade it in or sell it. Another two people I know just dumped their Range Rover Money Pits for Lexuses.
Was that the stupid 4/6/8 engine that turned off cylinders to save fuel?
My Mom had a diesel Cadillac Seville. Beautiful looking car, but if you floored it, it billowed out a black cloud of exhaust behind it like a WWII destroyer taking evasive action. That did work well to discourage tailgaters, however.
Put bigger wheels on the back so it’s always going downhill.

I wonder, how does that work, are you required to sit in the “driver’s” seat? If I had a couple too many, can I just sit in the back seat and let the car drive me home?
That will cost local towns small fortunes on DUI and local lawyers are going to go broke not defending them. Heck you wouldn’t even need many cops either
No, I’m sure our Leftist overlords will nix nuclear power. I’m thinking they figure if only those who have the power (in the country) are allowed to have vehicles, then there will be enough power for THEM to drive around. It’s we, the working stiffs, who won’t have the ‘luxury’ of traveling, etc. They are already trying this out with their ‘Covid’ rules that don’t apply to them.
Same here. My dad had a 1994 DeVille Concours with the Northstar V-8. That sucker looked like a slow-mobile, but it would give most anything a run for the money back then. Smooth, handled nice when it needed to, and fast.
They are quiet inside. Worth every penny.

It could be. On the other hand it could be the gas engine block they converted to diesel.
I hope your dad didn’t buy a Cimarron.
in certain parts of it, he’s correct
and neighborhoods are not sized to have everyone recharging cars overnight either all night on 120v or a few hours on 240v fast chargers.
Those were in the maybe late 80’s to mid nineties. 4.1 liter. They were junk. The only impressive one I ever saw was fit in a chevy citation.
And that’s certainly the case in NYS.
