Nov. 25 (UPI) -- A hunter in the Czech Republic was charged by a deer that snagged the man's gun on its antlers and fled into the woods with the weapon, police said.
Police in the South Bohemian Region said a hunter contacted authorities to recount the story of how he lost his gun while hunting near the village of Horni Plana.
The man said one of the hunting dogs in his group startled a stag in a wooded area, causing the panicked deer to run directly toward him.
The deer's antlers ripped the man's sleeve and ended up snagged on his .22 Hornet rifle, which had been slung over his left hand at the time.
The animal ran off into the woods with the hunter's unloaded gun still attached to its antlers, the man told police.
Police said another hunter reported spotting a deer with a rifle dangling from its antlers more than half a mile from the scene.
Investigators said the hunter was required to report the loss of the rifle under the Czech Republic's Firearms and Ammunition Act.
5.56 × 45 is, essentially a .22 caliber.
That said, shot placement is key.
Everything on the planet has been killed with a .22 LR.
My mother had a .22 hornet.
Over 2700 FPS (feet per second).
She didn't use it much as the ammo was more expensive than .22 long.
She killed a deer with a Mossberg model 152 .22 long rifle at around 1000 FPS.
It dropped dead instantly. Shot through both eyes, toward the rear of the eyes, from the left side.
From close range to 100 yards, it's the hunter, not so much the ammo.
Another friend killed a 300+ pound black bear with a .22 long rifle.
Shot through the right eye at point blank range, about a foot or less as it charged him.
It also died instantly, the body brushing by him, landing in a heap.
Deer returns with box of Dominion system printed ballots - ellipse/oval fields filled with string of letters, that, when scanned backwards, spell:
Orange Man Good
Meant to add:
When hunters backtrack deer’s path, they find the lone “deplatformed” former employee who lost his job at Dominion, because he objected to corruption.
.22 mag 1700 fps 300 ft lbs
.22 Hornet 2700 fps 700 ft lbs
That was off the top of my head.
A buddy has a couple Hornets and he casts his own boolits which can't be driven as fast as jacketed.
I could have looked it up but that would have been against FR tradition!😂
I have a box of .22 Hornet I need to sell.
Man, that happened to me too. It was a 32 point buck that jumped me at Zorinsky and snatched my SCAR-H and jumped over a fence. I sicked my borzoi on it to get it back but she wouldn’t jump the fence.
I usually have boating accidents out there at the lake, but WOW this was really something.
Oh, and hey..how about that Biden victory, wasn’t that something.
That FR tradition of not looking it up is a doubled edged popsicle stick. I had to look it up:)
I cant tell you how many times this has happened to me.
There was a hunter in the US that put his rifle on the antlers of a deer, that he had just shot, for a photo. Deer got up & ran off with his gun. I never heard if he got it back but I suspect he did.
The deer are coming!
Popped on your what?
Here in the USA...more deer been killed with a .22 than any other caliber....
Deer Harvey Oswald.
Prolly what the deer thought, too!
Video...or it didn’t happen.
“.... tragic boating accident line got kinda old...”
Durn... spit tea all over the screen !! :)
I bet he needed a change of underwear.😳
There is a Far Side cartoon in there somewhere.
