Severe cases of Covid-19 have been known to lead to a mysterious condition whereby the body's immune system goes haywire and starts attacking healthy cells, rather than just those that are infected.
This prolonged state of self-sabotage is known as a 'cytokine storm' and can be fatal, but researchers have struggled to understand how it works and how to treat it.
Now new research has looked at the progression of a coronavirus infection in mice and found the cytokine storm is a vicious cycle, which leads to the overproduction of two signalling proteins called tumour necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha and interferon (INF)-gamma.

You’re welcome. :-)
Everyone can tolerate 5000IU of Vitamin D unless there is disease or other issue which would be exceedingly rare. People with a 50nl/mg level of Vitamin D have a Hazard Ratio of .11. That's an 89% reduction in mortality by simply having sufficient Serum Vitamin D in the blood. This is not speculation, this is from Randomized, Placebo Controlled Clinical studies. It's not hopium and wavium. It's real and it makes a difference. Study after study after study is showing that Vitamin D makes a massive difference.
If you want a mandate, this should be the mandate. Everyone takes 3000IU of Vitamin D daily up to age 50, if you are 50+, it's 5000, 70+ 8000. Mortality would drop off a cliff.
A Vitamin D mandate would not be a good idea, because of exclusions. One is a small number of people who get sick from even a small amount (~5,000IU) orally. Another small number who cannot absorb it orally. Many more people get sick from 25,000 IU, especially over time.
A much larger problem is mostly in women and those with osteoporosis. This is because of the Vitamin D and Calcium balance. In a lot of people, too much Vitamin D will cause a shortage in Calcium. It may also interact with Phosphorus, Selenium and perhaps other minerals and electrolytes.
Vitamin D is also not recommended for cats or dogs unless prescribed by a veterinarian.
Mineral oil, smoking, extended darkness and smog can considerably diminish serum Vitamin D.
However, it is a natural ACE inhibitor, opens up immune system pathways to fight infections, and one of its breakdown products in the blood erodes viral coats.

Conventional medicine and Pharma would have a conniption fit. They would do it for a year and then sabotage it with “studies” showing increased arterial blockage (since the D3 was not partnered with vit K2-mk7 and magnesium). Then they would insist that the FDA regulate vitamin D3.
Folks with hypothyroid often need more than the numbers you list. My blood level of vit D3 is 80 to 90 ng/mL on a higher dose. I haven’t had a respiratory infection for years since I have been on this regimen.
We use a Berkey water filter in my home. Have done for 15 years. The secondary filter removes metals and fluoride. Maybe there is a better option, but until I hear about it...I like my Berkey
The trouble is that arsenic is a “semi-metal”. Above ground its primary use was as a wood preservative, often blended with an almost equally toxic copper solution. It was used as rat poison.
Plus, short of reverse osmosis, maximum contaminant level (MCL) of 10 μg/L is insanely hard to reach. I noted that Berkey filters promise to *reduce* arsenic levels, for what that is worth.
Before anything, I would check out what the contaminant levels are of your local water. As I said, the EPA is super strict about this, and it is a lot easier to clean if it isn’t contaminated in the first place.
Thanks, not doing so, but I appreciate the advice.
Thx for info
Dr. David Samadi is very good and trustworthy. See him on twitter. Thnks for what he recommends. Which is pure common sense/
bkmk
He is someone ‘new’ to me. There are other doctors that I respect and who I listen to (& make healthcare choices for myself, based on what info they put out there) and Dr. Samadi is now part of that group where I’m concerned. :-)
According to everything I have read, 2g of vitamin C is too little. For serious illness most adults would need on the order of 50 to 100 grams per day in divided doses
What I have read is all over the place. I do know that taking that much C will make what comes out the other end liquid, at random (and assuredly inconvenient times), for days. Probably shouldn’t be done proactively , and perhaps lower amounts will be helpful anyway to prevent or minimize the cytokine storm (esp. if combined with zinc and an ionophore to ameliorate the severity of the Covid).
“I do know that taking that much C will make what comes out the other end liquid, at random (and assuredly inconvenient times), for days. “
I don’t think that that is correct. With serious infection, the body will use it up. Loose stools are the cue to back off.
The MATH+ protocol uses intravenous Ascorbic Acid at fairly high doses.
I believe it was Robert Cathcart, MD who put out a table for how much vitamin C to use daily for various ailments. For serious viral infection, IIRC it was on the order of 100 grams per day.
I’ve personally taken 30g/day for months when I was seriously ill in 2014. No issues for me.
I’ll look further into it. Thanks for the info.
You really cannot go wrong with C. Some people need to take the buffered kind. If one takes divided doses, the loose stools are the clearest indication of whether one needs to back off a bit.
Ascorbic acid at high doses is a strong antiviral, by my reading.
“Ascorbic acid at high doses is a strong antiviral, by my reading.”
One possible problem with the IV use of C is that it is very hard on the veins (it IS an acid). One article I read back in the Spring said that the oral use was much preferred.
FYI, based on that article I got a kilo of powdered C that I mix into smoothies (about 1000 mg a pop) on most days.
That’s why you buffer it.
Dr Levy MD has a great presentation on Dr Fred Klenner’s vitC research. I’ll try to find it.
