Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology reported a “high intensity” explosion Monday at the Stromboli volcano, one of the most active volcanoes in the world, located off the southern coast of Sicily in the Mediterranean Sea.
The institute’s surveillance cameras captured the event in visual and thermal format early Monday. The explosion could be seen sending ash and steam at least 100 meters into the air and streams of lava rapidly running down the center-south side of the volcano.
The institute reported the event lasted four minutes.
"From the seismological standpoint," it "was characterized by a sequence of explosive events and landsliding," it said.
The institute also reported no variation in the overall condition of the volcano.
The Stromboli volcano is one of the most active on Earth, with minor explosions and random lava flows descending from the crater directly into the sea. It has been erupting almost continuously since 1932. Light from its nighttime eruptions is visible for long distances, earning it the title, "Lighthouse of the Mediterranean.”
Leave the gun take the Stromboli.
Yet another cause of massive eruptions...
I guess it depends a little on how close you are.
I had a college roomate from Utica, NY who used to bring back Italian sausage roll back from Mama’s house.
Kinda the same thing as a calzone, but rolled up. You would slice it about an 1’ thick and put more sauce on it.
Good eatin in the neighborhood.
It should be revoked....................
I had a roommate from Erie at PSU - total Italian. His Mom would send him pepperonis. I would eat them out of the little dorm fridge and just leave him money and an apology saying I couldn’t help myself. We still laugh at it 30+ years later.
I’m sure your dinner guests would appreciate that...
When a big pizza pie
hits you right in the eye..
That’s Stromboli!!
Stomboli Volcano? Instead of lava, it sprews out tomato sauce...
Erupts with 'High Intensity'
Of course it did.

I'm a dude...that likes to cook.
FWIW-
Not guilty... of anything. Ever. She's amazing. We are blessed.
You beat me to it...
I bought a 7000 watt generator. My power has never failed since.
“I had a roommate from Erie at PSU - total Italian.”
You can believe this or not.
Remember in the mid 1970’s US and Italian intelligence agencies infiltrated and destroyed a communist terror group in Italy? I think it was called the “Red Brigade” or some such.
Where I started college the dorms had Jack and Jill bathrooms (Two rooms shared a bathroom) One of the guys I shared a bathroom with was a second generation immigrant from Sicily, his mother was pregnant when she arrived in the US. When he joined the army they asked, “Do you speak any foreign languages?” and he replied, in Italian. They tested him and discovered his Italian was better than the guys who taught Italian in the Army.
They put him in an intelligence unit and gave him the cover of a college student, the son of a wealthy Italian family. He joined the Italian Communist party and was one of the people that infiltrated the Italian communist terror cells.
For his cover, he enrolled in a culinary institute of some kind and became a Chief courtesy of the US Army as a spy.
Was he telling me the truth? I have no idea. Could the guy cook? Oh, boy, yeah, he could.
Poor choice of words and located wrong, what is journalism coming to? High intensity eruption, a whole 300+ feet into the air.
