Sean Connery's wife Micheline Roquebrune is opening up about her husbands final days.
It was no life for him, the French-Moroccan artist told the Mail on Sunday, revealing that the actor, who died on Saturday in his sleep, had been struggling with dementia. It took its toll on him, she said. He was not able to express himself latterly.
Roquebrune, 91, went on to share that Connery got his final wish to slip away without any fuss.
At least he died in his sleep and it was just so peaceful. I was with him all the time and he just slipped away, she said. It was what he wanted.

Roger Moore died at age 89...Cancer...
Which James Bond actors are left?
George Lazenby...81 years old... Timothy Dalton...74 years old... Pierce Brosnan...67 years old...
Lazenby is probably guessing that his time to go is approaching...
Daniel Craig is my age. 52.
Except he’s in a little better shape.
Next to each other we’d look like the number 10 :)
Just lost my mother a few days ago. 87 years old with the last 8 years incrementally lost to Alzheimer’s. Miserable way to leave this life.
Lazenby is a tough bird and I think a better Bond that Moore or Brosnan. Hulu has a really great documenatry on him. He basically bluffed his way into the Bo d role and was fired from the franchise because he grew a beard. Rather insane life.
Dementia is perhaps the most cruel disease.
You have my empathy.
Can relate to the Dementia bit. My father, a two tour Vietnam vet, had a case of progressive Dementia probably exacerbated by Agent Orange. Died within 2.5 years of being diagnosed with it at 78.
All that matters is that you can kick his ars.
My mom had dementia in her last years, dying in her 90s.
My best friend was diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia at the age of 34. The next week, he and his wife found out that she was pregnant with their first child. He lived for 7 more years. By the end, I was so happy (for everyone involved) when he passed away. It was horrible...
Enjoy and protect your good mental health.
RIP Mr. Connery. Enjoyed several of his movies.
The family has some real tough decisions to make, my sister is living with her now and trying to take care of her, but my sister is in her 60's and really can't handle her at this point. We always told her we would never put her in a nursing home, but it might come to that, we are trying to pool our finances and and work out some sort of in home nursing, at least during the day. But that ain't cheap (about $5,000 a month).
My Grandmother is going throught the exact same scenario right now.
George Lazenby - I think they got the story line for Archer from this guy !!!
Same here. My mother passed in February at age 92 and had suffered from Alzheimers and dementia.
It makes me ponder my future.
Father at 86....Lewy Body Dementia. Probably a year and a half from onset to finis.
It must be very frightening. I live near people with Alzheimers and it is so sad.
So sorry for the loss of your Mom.
When some says James Bond Connery is who I envision......my next favorite is Daniel Craig!!
