The Sandman and American Gods author Neil Gaiman recently pointed out the obvious that franchises risk alienating their fans if they dont stick to the source material.

Netflix has the original series rated TV14 with a “sex, fear” warning. Seriously.
The expanse had a lot of promise but degenerated into cheap, crude porn. Half the dialog is f bombs.
I like Kirby, but it was before my time. I always thought Alan Davis had a beautiful clean line for super hero comics.
Freegards
That’s a no-brainer - political correctness and wokeness ruined them both.
Gaiman is correct!!
...and a very good writer
“In the Pale Moonlight” is a fantastic episode
Respectfully, I could not disagree more. The Expanse uses f-bombs far less than many shows. With regard to describing the series as “cheap porn”, I only recall 2 sex scenes in the entire 4 seasons, and neither one showed so much as an exposed breast.
The thing about comics, the back issues exist. Same with tv shows. Same with movies. Same with books.
If you tell me Batman is now a transgender Muslim who believes in Black Lives Matter, I shrug my shoulders and enjoy the past. You can’t force me to read or consume woke entertainment.
I can’t imagine what you could find to watch to make expanse look like what you are describing by comparison.
Sisko looked at it and coldly calculated that it was going save his people so the sacrifice was more then worth it
Refused to pay for “CBS All Access” to see Discovery.
My son bought season 1 for me on bluray. As soon as the two “crewmen” kissed, I popped it out of the player and threw the whole collection away. -— BYE.
Star Trek Discovery is a textbook example of awkward pedantic “wokeness” destroying what could be an interesting story.
I don’t mind gay characters, but Discovery’s obsession with featuring long scenes of their token gay couple being affectionate with each other is ridiculous, preachy and nauseating.
There would never be extended scenes of heterosexual couples hugging and kissing in a well written sci-fi drama, because those scenes add nothing to the storytelling.
Bingo.
Pretty much agreed, though I’d also go as far as to add in another bit to the argument. Neil Gaiman’s explanation also applies even to the guys who originally created the work in the first place, as Star Wars and Star Trek’s ruining ended up occurring in large part BECAUSE of their original creators thinking just because they created it, that automatically means they can force in their political views and philosophies regardless of whether the fans wanted it or not. The dork elements of, say, The Next Generation that involved Picard and that empath occurred while Gene Roddenberry was in firm control. Ironically, it was only after his death that it actually started to get good (from what I heard, anyway). And let’s not forget all the infamous bad elements of Return to the Jedi such as the Ewoks and even Obi-Wan essentially promoting moral relativism, to say little about the Prequel Trilogy and the controversial stuff on that front all occurred under George Lucas’s watch.

Sadly much of the source material is now unreadable dreck in the comic book arena.
Its not hard to figure out, respect them source material and you are okay... turn it into SJW crap, and lose followers.
I dont need every show or book I read to have a gay character, especially when there is absolutely no reason for me to know or care they are gay. Some incidental character that has no bearing on the plot in any way and I know nothing about at all, but damn sure better make sure we know they are gay?!?
Unknown and unidentified male underling delivering message from someone... never saw before, and will never see again..
Underling: Message for you sir.
Main Character: Thank you.
Underling:Glad I got it to you in time I now I can make it home on time for my date with my husband
TPols only reason for being on the show was she was easy on the eyes.
Enterprise was horrible, broke cannon everywhere.
Had a promising premise and the effed it to hell I the very first episode introducing time travel stupidity to it.
Lets see we discover dead Borg, but no one has ever heard of them, or find no info about them when the run into them in TNG.
Archer is supposedly so pivotal to the creation of the Federation.. yet no one ever mentioned him anywhere before..
Pompous lectures about how humanity has evolved past war and poverty in the last 100 years to anyone who will listen.
It was by far the worst of the Star Trek series, and Im including Voyager in that.
The premise was nice had tons of potential, but just flushed it into the toilet from day one.
Thank you! Looks like my kind of book/site! :)
