A team of geologists at the University of Houston College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics believes they have found the lost plate in northern Canada by using existing mantle tomography imagessimilar to a CT scan of the earth's interior. The findings, published in Geological Society of America Bulletin, could help geologists better predict volcanic hazards as well as mineral and hydrocarbon deposits.
"Volcanoes form at plate boundaries, and the more plates you have, the more volcanoes you have," said Jonny Wu, assistant professor of geology in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. "Volcanoes also affect climate change. So, when you are trying to model the earth and understand how climate has changed since time, you really want to know how many volcanoes there have been on earth."
Wu and Spencer Fuston, a third-year geology doctoral student, applied a technique developed by the UH Center for Tectonics and Tomography called slab unfolding to reconstruct what tectonic plates in the Pacific Ocean looked like during the early Cenozoic Era. The rigid outermost shell of Earth, or lithosphere, is broken into tectonic plates and geologists have always known there were two plates in the Pacific Ocean at that time called Kula and Farallon. But there has been discussion about a potential third plate, Resurrection, having formed a special type of volcanic belt along Alaska and Washington State.
Using 3-D mapping technology, Fuston applied the slab unfolding technique to the mantle tomography images to pull out the subducted plates before unfolding and stretching them to their original shapes.

I’ve always liked reading Selina Zito. Today she made reference to “Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel” which was an added plus.
Good article.
I talked to the gal at Walmart about the freezer and she wants to come and get it tomorrow.
I just spent 15 minutes cleaning it out. It needs to go. It was useful at one time, when I first got it five years ago (or maybe it was four) but when I checked most of the stuff was freezer-burned, pull date of somewhere in 2019... What a waste. I’m so ashamed. What little I could save fits in the small freezer on the fridge with room to spare. *sigh*
Yesterday, I was so focused on retrieving that thing from the outgoing mail that I didn’t even check to see what mail I had. When I went over this morning, I found my Humana card as well as a welcome letter that was pretty well soaked. I have no idea how it happened because everything else was dry.
At our polling place they had a tablet for signing in so they had a collection of styluses (styli?), some marked “clean” and some marked “used”.
Then we took the paper they handed us and went over to the poling places (standing desks with wrap-around privacy guards) that had a pen for filling in the bubbles.
One pen.
But they tried.
I used to read “The Family Circus.” There were ghosts occasionally drawn in the panel named “Not Me” “Ida Know”. There’s a third one but I can’t recall the name right now.
A mail carrier probably dropped it in a puddle.
I’m going to Walmart for my next thing. We’re *gasp* out of cat food!
Nobody?
Could be. Sounds about right.
Mrs. ArGee has voted. Also no crowd.

I just found this... Now, of course, I want it! LOL!
I’m glad you and Mrs ArGee have been able to vote with no difficulty. A lot of people here did early voting, including me, so now, it’s just a matter of waiting to hear if communism is going to be the Order Of the Day or if we get to take more of America back.
I haven’t heard a thing about the voting, and I probably don’t want to at the moment.
I’d rather listen to the wind chimes. They’re playing some beautiful music right now, and it’s quite soothing.
Could the lack of crowds be a “Mass Abstention “ as sometimes occurs here?
I do hope not. That would hand it to....shudder.
All in the hands of the BOSS.
Some of us have been praying very hard that the communists will lose and I can only trust in His Goodness and Grace that He will save this nation that He set aside for the freedoms that we enjoy at His Behest. </pulpit
This has been an ongoing theme in my prayers for a very long time.
Nah, it’s just that people voted early.
DP just found a picture of Shannon on Facebook saying, “Is this someone’s cat? She’s so sweet!” Danged suck-up Shannon. They can’t have her. I paid her vet bills and keep the food bowl full!
Shambles (street) York
Some thoughts on Communism.
The common phrase, “From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs” is 2 sentence fragments. The complete sentences are:
“I take from each according to his ability.”
“I give to each according to his needs as I see them.”
These phrases have the same meaning whether spoken by someone you call Comrade or Massah. You’re his slave.
If the people of America vote to enslave themselves, there won’t be any Abe Lincoln to lead an army to free them. And it will be a long time before anyone will pledge their lives, their fortunes, or their sacred honor to create another free nation.
I think it was either early voting or people waiting until later in the day - or both.
Oooh, all the murders! Beautiful!
“Take One” Gifts maybe conveys the wrong impression, especially in the current mostly-peaceful-protest environment.
Hope you’re right, ArGee.
‘Merica goes to the poles and the whole world holds its breath.
G’evening.
Line at poll was long.
Don’t know if that will matter since thus is in NY.
COOL! I could stand some of that “Old World Charm.”
I need to come over and tour the place. LOVE to see Field House in The Triangle near Sowerby outside Halifax.
The “new house” on the right was built in the early 1700’s; the “old house” on the left was completed about 100 years earlier.
Plus I’ve other lines of family that came, and went across The Isles between the Norman Invasion and their longtime later migration to The New World.
I’m saving money in a Secret Location so I can visit the castles someday. ‘Face gets it if I die in a Patrick (or James, or Vlad) Driving Catastrophe.
