Mask Karens

I had the bright idea of going to the library on Sunday to get a few books. BAD IDEA.

I walk in and there is this woman sitting at a plastic fold out table. Granted I have the damn mask on but it is not over my nose.

I am walking past the table and this bit*& says, PUT YOUR MASK OVER YOUR NOSE SIR! SIR OVER THE NOSE! I gave her the dirtiest look and walk away.

This is the second time this has happened to me. At a local taco place another witch motioned with her hand for me to put the mask over my nose.

I have lost so much respect for people during this covid crap. Lot of their inner tyrant has come out and try to shame me for no reason.

notice it is almost always men daring to go for that nonmask mask approach

That's because men are less willing to trade freedom away for security than women are.

One of our problems is that there are too few men. Can you imagine WWII soldiers being dropped in overnight? Masks would be over before noon.

Have you ever considered you are the Karen because you are too good to pull a mask over your nose? Stupid? check. selfish? check? Karen, yup.

Um, no.

Why should we be compelled to participate in this silly kabuki theater?

Same with the airlines. I had a flight attendant tell me to pull mine up when barely half a nostril was showing. I couldn’t breathe. These people should be kissing the rearside of those willing to fly and patronize their businesses. American Airlines actually announces to paying customers that if you don’t wear the mask properly then you will be escorted off and never allowed to fly American again. Not good customer service for the ones willing to get back on planes and keep their crap airlines afloat. Also, no beverage service. Again, they should be kissing our feet for showing up.

Do you believe that local rules are the same everywhere as in Pennsylvania?

No question, there’s a sex-linked difference between men and women on these sorts of things from the start. Women are more physically vulnerable and more likely to go along as a result.

And we have unfortunately feminized—literally in the hormones department—too many of our men as well.

"I don’t care if you wear a mask or not, unless you come into my business without wearing one as the law requires."

Is it a law? Where? In my state it's an edict from governor "coonman".

So, you’re in Virginia? I don’t know what health order(s) are in effect in Virginia. I’m sure you can inquire with your State’s health department.

Yep, VA. The only place I wear a mask in is when I go to the ABC store (which is state operated). Most folks here are wearing them (85%). Lots of anti mask talk at the registers when they see me.

See my post saying that I believe everything should be opened up and the lockdowns and mask orders removed. I am the opposite of a Karen, but I do comply with the local health orders lest my business be closed. If you’d ever run a business, you would understand.

I really can’t say anything. I have to wear a mask when I’m the only person on the floor of an empty office.

After the election and when things start quickly getting back to normal as COVID will no longer be a get Trump issue, what will the mask Karens do about losing their newfound power? Does anybody think they’re just going to easily give it up?

I just won’t wear a mask. They are not going to bully me into it.

“Masks do not impede your breathing—it’s all mental. “

If the mask doesn’t impede your breathing somewhat, you are using it incorrectly. Covering your mouth and nose should cause some breathing discomfort....obviously. It just shouldn’t be severe.

American Airlines actually announces to paying customers that if you don’t wear the mask properly then you will be escorted off and never allowed to fly American again.

I used travel on business up to 35 weeks per year. I stopped doing that a couple of years after 9/11. Airlines were terrible then and I was mostly flying first-class. I can't imagine how much worse they are now, particularly in coach. They just don't get my business any longer. I'd rather drive.

The only place I wear a mask is at work, since I work at a hospital and not doing so threatens my livelihood. I go mask-less everywhere else, even if there are "Masks Required" signs on the door.

I do make a concerted effort to stay far away from others in the store, apologize if I accidentally get too close and greet people with a smile. I've had 3 incidences in the last couple of months and all involved employees.

The first was not a direct confrontation, but a subtle mask-shaming attempt by a grocery store clerk. She was standing in front of the registers and I was at the self-checkout. Whenever someone would go through the cashier's lane which was right next to mine, she would say loudly "thank you for wearing your mask" and then look at me sideways. I was very tempted to approach her and tell her the attempt to mask-shame me was futile, but didn't think it was worth it.

The second was at Joann's - the floor clerk asked if I had a mask and I said no. She said we request that customers wear a mask and I said ok thanks.

The third and most contentious was a cashier at Burlington Coat Factory in Pittsburgh (I was visiting my kids). I entered the store without mask, shopped all through the store, then went to the checkout where the cashier told me I was supposed to be wearing a mask. I said "I'm sorry, I can't" to which she asked "really, why not?" I politely told her it was really none of her business. She then proceeded to tell me that because I was already at the checkout it was fine but next time I wouldn't be allowed into the store without a mask.

I had two thoughts: Since I just got done shopping the entire store unimpeded the threat was toothless. And, was she planning on making me wear a Star of David or wear a sensor tag so that the next time I entered that store they would know I am a repeat offender?

I am actually on the side that says “IF you choose to wear a mask, WEAR THE FLIPPING THING CORRECTLY, OR NOT AT ALL, MORON!”

You need the full ensemble: Trump 2020 hat, “Don’t Tread On Me” t-shirt, no mask, open carry. :)
