24/Vanity

Posted on 10/10/2020 12:55:57 PM PDT by Allen In Texas Hill Country

I'm in the middle of Miami Vice. Actually season 4 and thought I'd take a small break and watch the first episode of 24. WOW, was it explosive in more ways than one. Its been 20 years so I don't remember anything except for Kiefer Sutherland. Something really good to look forward to after Miami Vice. And back to Miami Vice, In one episode, out of nowhere, Sonny Crocket got married. Sure wonder how thats going to be folded into future episodes???? If one hasn't watched/seen 24 put it on your list!!

Yup. That’s the one - Hieronymus (Harry) Bosch. Totally into it.

Keep an eye out for Elisha Cuthbert from 24 or wherever.

Trust me. ;-)

We lived in Alaska during Magnum years, and flew to Hawaii often — cheap flights on Eastern Airlines. Occasionally we’d come upon an area where they were filming. We never got a good look at Tom, but were able to see his legs through the bushes sometimes. LOL!!

Later, we lived in SoCal in the city where he lived. I never saw him there, but did have lunch often where his father was. Believe it or not, he’s almost better looking than TS.

And he’d have been about the same age as TS is now, and Dad definitely aged better.

“Burn Notice. Another great show.”

Definitely! Tim Matheson was very good in that, too.

The old, original Miami Vice? (Did they ever do a re-make? I don’t recall.)

The original. Never heard there was a remake/sequel.

You mentioned SOCal so I’ll drift off the TV subject. You probably never saw this entry.

13 years in Santa Barbara area and another 21 in Orange County. It was enjoyable while it lasted. The horror stories I read about Venice Beach. We loved to spend a day there looking at stores and people. No more.

24 was great. I looked forward each week to Jack Bauer’s opening statement: “Previously on 24 ...”

Crockett’s wife had the same life expectancy as the Cartwright women.

Thank you for the ‘Bosch’ recommendation. I’ve read a lot of the books about that character, if that’s Harry Bosch we’re talking about?

Author Michael Connelly?

I read almost all Bosch books...

Right now, I am reading THE NIGHT FIRE...
Harry is a private detective, not a cop any longer...He is working on an unsolved case with LAPD detective Renee Ballard...
Harry’ daughter is a college student...

Joseph Wambaugh wrote some good books in the past...

I never missed an episode of “ Miami Vice” when it was new.

I watched MIAMI VICE and HUNTER regularly on NBC during 1980s...

COZI TV showed MIAMI VICE a few years ago...

There are a few episodes of MIAMI VICE that I actually remember...

One episode had Bruce Willis as an arms dealer who was untouchable...Cops planted bugs in his house...They heard screams of the wife being abused in the house...

One episode had Joan Chen playing Castillo’s wife...Castillo used to work for CIA in Southeast Asia...

One episode had Niam Neeson playing some IRA terrorist...Gina fell in love with him...

MIAMI VICE was a remarkable TV series...

Selleck has a special place in my heart. My two best girlfriends and I were in the Army together. Every Wednesday evening, when we were stateside, whether we were stationed together or apart, we would tune in and watch ‘Magnum’ and have a glass of wine and ‘do’ our nails, together. ___________________________________________________ ABC had MATT HOUSTON...It was an OK show...

I just found the entire series of ‘The Thorn Birds’ on DVD. Thrilled!

Loved that the first time I saw it - probably in the 80’s? You know, back when you had to wait a whole WEEK between episodes on regular TV? ;)

Give me a good, old-fashioned ‘Mini-Series’ any day!
___________________________________________

THE THORN BIRDS also had some nice music...

I do remember those “mini-series” movies back in the good old days...
Jaclyn Smith was in some of those movies which were based on Sidney Sheldon’s novels...
WINDMILLS OF THE GODS is one example...

There is a sequel to THE THORN BIRDS...
THE THORN BIRDS: THE MISSING YEARS...It was on CBS in 1996...I did not watch it...

Thanks for the recommendations. I remember Mom reading Wambaugh; will check those out, too.

And in “24” the CTU clinic never saves a patient. They send you there, you die.

‘Jaclyn Smith’

She had a good run, LOL! I read all of the Sidney Sheldon soap opera-type books in High School. Enjoyed the movies later. :)

We girls were also into the ‘bodice-rippers’ for a while. A perennial favorite will always be, ‘Shanna’ by Kathleen Woodiwiss.

Kathleen E. Woodiwiss - Biography

With more than thirty-six million (!) copies of her bestselling novels already in print, Kathleen E. Woodiwiess remains one of America’s most successful and beloved storytellers. She is the author of twelve enormously successful masterworks of romantic fiction, including The Flame and the Flower, Shanna, Ashes in the Wind, Petals on the River, and The Elusive Flame.
