A woman in Mississippi received a slithering surprise when she got home from work last week: a snake that had been lodged on top of her front door landed on her head.
The encounter happened after the intruder made its way on top of Christina Mitchell's door on Thursday, the Enterprise-Journal reported. "I felt this thump on my head," Mitchell said. "I looked down and the snake had landed at my feet in the house."
The newspaper reports the 10-inch (25-centimeter) serpent then darted to the kitchen while Mitchell called her husband to let him know about their new visitor. But she didn't wait for help. She grabbed a broom and ushered the reptile out of her house in McComb, a city located about 80 miles (127 kilometers) south of Jackson. "He did his striking pose because it was just a scared little rat snake,"??Mitchell said. "He tried to bite at my broom whenever I put him outside.

I hate when that happens.
Obviously she is an experienced snake handler. She knew just what to do! Even knew what type of snake it was.
Rat snake around here is name given to black snakes that eat lots of rodents and other (poisonous) snakes. The male is smaller than the female. These snakes mate for life.
Indoors, I opened a door and a Huntsman (BIG) spider landed on my forehead.
Did you know that spiders are cold?
=8-O
Some people have all the luck.
Knit them little sweaters.
... with 8 arms.
Sounds like Australia.
This almost happened to my wife. She opened the back patio door one day and was eyeball to eyeball with a pygmy rattlesnake lodged inside the top of the door sill.
I know from personal experience that it happens.
I was taking my dogs out for the last time of the night and when I went out with them the storm door slammed behind me and didn’t sound right. I turned around and it looked like something was hung in the door. I opened the door to see what it was and a large rat snake fell off the top of the door, landed on my head, and wrapped itself around my neck. It eventually jumped off of me and landed inside the entrance. It went slithering across the room with me right behind it. My husband was asleep so I got him up and we went snake hunting. It took a while but we finally chased it out the door. We don’t kill the “good” snakes.
Now I always look up when taking the girls out. LOL
Well....great. Not sure how I am supposed to go out the door to go to work today. Because your story basically is my nightmare. Nothing is supposed to drop on my head and wrap itself around my neck when Im just headin out my own damn door. ;)
This is news???? I had one in my living room on my white carpet in Virginia and no one came to interview me.
We find rat (black) snakes on our property periodically. I know they do good by eating mice and other pests and mean no harm to us, but they still creep me out. Every now and then I will find one or a skin in our basement. I don’t want them living in or near the house, so I bought snake tongs and when I see one I relocate it to a wetlands area a few miles away. I know that relocating them is not ideal for their survival, but it’s the best compromise I can come up with.
There was a small bird that made a nest under the aluminum awning over that door. I think the snake was after the eggs or the baby birds. After the baby birds were gone (or eaten) I tore the nest down. We have an old fashioned awning over both external doors that the birds like to shelter under. That’s the reason for the snake, I think. No more snakes since no more bird’s nest.
