In the murky waters of the Strait of Malacca, about 90 miles south of Phuket, Thailand, four divers discovered a World War II submarine that was scuttled 77 years ago, now teeming with marine life.
The wreckage, believed to be the USS Grenadier, was located last October by divers Jean Luc Rivoire, Lance Horowitz, Benoit Laborie and Ben Reymenants, the team announced this month.
Over the subsequent six months, the men one of whom, Reymenants, assisted in the 2018 rescue of the boys soccer team that was trapped in a cave in northern Thailand completed six carefully planned dives to study and identify the submarine, Horowitz, 36, said Friday from Phuket.

How much are they selling it for?
Classic
We just watched a Twilight Zone episode about a lost WW2 sub. A US destroyer overhead kept hearing a knocking noise like a hammer on metal so they sent a diver down who found the sub. Turns out the Master Chief of the destroyer had been the only survivor of the sub sinking and was going crazy with survivor guilt. Finally he jumped overboard to be back in the sub with his mates. Divers got into the sub and found a skeleton with a hammer in it’s hand. I hope no one jumped overboard from the ship carrying this team!!!
Hmmm. Near Phuket you'd expect them to find a frigate.
Great episode.
I wish my town was named Phuket. Imagine the uses.
Go to Youtube and watch “The Silent Service.” It is a series that tells the stories of WW2 submariners. Great stuff.
See if you can spot Leonard Nemoy in two of the episodes. Deforest Kelly is in three episodes.
Other guest stars include Jack Lord, Chuck Connors, Bob Denver and Dick Van Patten.
“THERE CALLING MUSTER ON ME!” Still remember it after seeing it way back in the 1960s.
The Silent Service.
I still remember that show from way back then, when TV was still worth watching.
I have reference 10 from there, Silent Victory. Also worth reading for an account of the US submarine fleet during WWII, especially in the Pacific. By the end of the war, the Japanese effectively lacked marine transport, wed sent them to the bottom.
Ha. It’s pronounced Foo Cat. USAF had Tactical Radar site there during Vietnam War.
Thanks TangledUpInBlue.
Even sunk a truck.
God continue to rest all souls who sailed upon her
I watched the whole series on You Tube recently. Brought back memories of watching it first run with my Dad back in the 50’s. I really liked that each episode featured a member of the crew.
