We just watched a Twilight Zone episode about a lost WW2 sub. A US destroyer overhead kept hearing a knocking noise like a hammer on metal so they sent a diver down who found the sub. Turns out the Master Chief of the destroyer had been the only survivor of the sub sinking and was going crazy with survivor guilt. Finally he jumped overboard to be back in the sub with his mates. Divers got into the sub and found a skeleton with a hammer in it’s hand. I hope no one jumped overboard from the ship carrying this team!!!

In the murky waters of the Strait of Malacca, about 90 miles south of Phuket, Thailand, four divers discovered a World War II submarine that was scuttled 77 years ago, now teeming with marine life.

Hmmm. Near Phuket you'd expect them to find a frigate.

I wish my town was named Phuket. Imagine the uses.

Go to Youtube and watch “The Silent Service.” It is a series that tells the stories of WW2 submariners. Great stuff.

See if you can spot Leonard Nemoy in two of the episodes. Deforest Kelly is in three episodes.

Other guest stars include Jack Lord, Chuck Connors, Bob Denver and Dick Van Patten.

Since it was scuttled it is not a war grave, so it is not a protected site.

Fascinating WW2 story, thanks for posting.

My late uncle served proudly in the US Navy in that war.

I remember the name Phuket from the earthquake in the Indian Ocean that created tsunamis (was it in 2004?). The water suddenly went way out in Phuket and a schoolgirl who had learned about tsunamis recognized what was happening and warned people to flee, saving many lives.
