TWO teenage friends plunged 100ft to their deaths just moments after posting a snap from the top waterfall.

Bruna Vellasquez, 18, and Monique Medeiros, 19, died after one of them slipped and the other tried to help.

The pair, described by friends as "inseparable", had gone for a walk with friends to the beauty spot in Brazil.

Police said one of the women slipped near the top of the waterfall and the other lost her balance when she went to help.

Tragically, both young women were killed after falling together in Salto Caveiras, Lages.

Bruna Vellasquez, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene before rescuers arrived, while Monique Medeiros lost her fight for life in hospital shortly after.

I am not laughing when I say my acrophobia has a basis in fact.

Sad. At least the other girl was selfless trying to help.

Here I was afraid it was another stupid “extreme” sporting attempt.

I stay away from cliff edges, unless there is a fence to stand behind.

What a waste, from a moment of recklessness.

Stand above a waterfall for selfies, what could possibly go wrong?

Me too. Cliff edges scare the crap out of me. Yet I love to fly in any kind of aircraft. Weird.

The Grand Canyon has barriers to keep visitors from getting dangerously close to the edge. Which of course some ignore and annually there’s 2-3 deaths a year.

My brother was in the Air National Guard. He was afraid of heights. Go figure.

Beautiful girls. Genes wasted. Sad. Some experiences just are not worth the downside...literally.

Confusing pic. They look like they are sitting by a creek. How did they end up dead from that position?

Thank you. When it comes to anything taller than a step-stool, I trust what my inner ear is trying to tell me, not what my cojones tell me to do.

I’m with you, I’ve always hated heights.

I was at the Grand Canyon a couple of years ago and there was a teenage boy showing off by posing on the edge of a cliff (beyond the barrier). A ranger came up and told him to get off because she didn’t want to have to go down to pick up his body because it was four hours down and six hours up. He refused and she reminded him that she was armed and she would arrest him unless he was off immediately. He got off.

But kids really don’t think. Young people believe they are immortal. While that’s one of the good things about being young, sometimes it makes you ignore reasonable limitations. But youth is all about that.

Prayers for these two girls and their families.

I am not comfortable with heights. I went to airborne school and still not comfortable with heights. I tend to stay away from edges.

My fraternity brothers and I would sit on the edges of the Missouri River bluffs at Easley. One of them would talk about what it be like to go off the edge. He really made me nervous because he seemed so serious.

When I was young, I would never walk up to a cliff edge, but would kind of crab walk on all fours / sidle up to the edge.

People need to remember that the mist created by the waterfall will make everything near it very slippery. When in rugged areas always wear good hiking shoes with cleated soles. Those simple precautions could make the difference between life and death.

I was at the Navajo Reserve about 5 years ago. No fence! I stayed on the trail and took pictures where it was clear.

I saw one very overweight kid (400lbs) trip and he was rolling towards the edge, but he did manage to stop in time. Another guy I saw, was leaning over the edge, as if he was an eagle. My thought when seeing him was, “What if a sudden wind passed by as he was leaning forward?”

I hate heights too. Plus I have read Death in the Grand Canyon. If that book doesn't keep you off the edge, nothing will.
