South Park is going to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic in a big way.
Comedy Central announced Tuesday a one-hour special episode of the iconic animated series devoted to the coronavirus crisis.
A trailer for the episode shows Randy Marsh announcing some sort of "pandemic special" attempting to cash in on the crisis, Cartman worrying about authorities trying to make him return to school, Kyle fretting about social distancing and a scene with the kids in a classroom encased in protective cubicles with a police detective as their new teacher.
The official description: "Randy comes to terms with his role in the COVID-19 outbreak as the on-going pandemic presents continued challenges to the citizens of South Park. The kids happily head back to school but nothing resembles the normal that they once knew; not their teachers, not their homeroom, not even Eric Cartman."
The episode marks the first time the 23-year-old series has ever made an hour-long episode. Previously, however, the show did a rather brilliant three-part episode titled "Imaginationland" in 2007 that aired over three weeks.
South Park pandemic special
COMEDY CENTRAL "The Pandemic Special will premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 8:00 p.m, and will be available on HBO Max 24 hours after its premiere. Creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone typically have a very last-minute creative process, writing episodes just a week before air and then scrambling to animate them right up to their deadline. That there's footage for the special's trailer two weeks in advance suggests the duo are spending extra time on this one, and the subject matter is certainly ripe for South Park's brand of iconoclastic humor and penchant for apocalyptic storylines.
The show's 24th season premiere date hasn't yet been announced but is presumably coming soon given that this special proves the series is back in production despite the pandemic.
By midnight I’m sawing wood.
They’ve yet to mock islam in true South Park fashion.
They drew Mohammad, but Comedy Central wouldn’t show it.
THE CDC DEFIES TRUMP ORDER TO HALT CRITICAL RACE THEORY
The SAME CDC that COOKED THE DATA and LIED TO US ABOUT THE LETHALITY OF COVID-19?
Whatever could have been their motive??
I’m SHOCKED. JUST SHOCKED!

I dont know where I saw it, but I did see the episode. They blurred the image when they showed Mad Mo and I dont know if that was in response to editors or in the plan all along. Either way it was good. Wikipedia says it did air once but not since so I must’ve caught that one airing.
Can’t wait to see their take...
I meant they didn’t show Muhammad, not the entire episode.
I think it might be Episode 200?...
And there was another great multipart episode called "Coon & Friends" that was so awesome.
These guys are often on the correct side of events. Not always, but often.

What they do is go right up to the line of bad taste, take 3 steps back to get a running start to vault OVER that line. Two episodes that really pushed the line were "Scott Tenneman Must Die" and "Woodland Critter Christmas."

It was Comedy Central that put a black block in the episode to hide it.
There was also an earlier “Superfriends” episode that actually DID have MadMo in it, but they didn’t make a big deal about it.
Mark
Well they tried to tackle Muhammad but Cc put the brakes on that.
“I cannot wait to see this show...”
I’ve now seen it and it’s hilarious! They literally go after EVERYONE as they are want to do! They even address the “bat” issue.
