Thanks to the Kremlin, U.S. President Donald Trump may soon see one of his dearest wishes come true.
Nord Stream 2, a nearly completed project that would pipe natural gas from Russia under the Baltic Sea to Germany, has thus far withstood major diplomatic assaults from the United States. But now, with the poisoning of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, there is growing pressure on German Chancellor Angela Merkel to kill the $11 billion scheme.
Construction on Nord Stream 2 began in 2018, after Germany granted planning permission for its end point in the northeastern German town of Lubmin.
It did not take long for Trump to express outrage.
Germany is totally controlled by Russia, he declared during a mid-2018 meeting with NATO top brass. The President tied the matter to his often-stated desire for NATO countries other than the U.S. to step up their defense spending. So were supposed to protect you against Russia, and you pay billions of dollars to Russia, and I think thats very inappropriate, he griped.
If Merkel does reverse her long-standing support for Nord Stream 2, as she has for the first time hinted she might do, the beneficiary would likely be the U.S.
The key issue here is Germanys world-leading transition to renewable energy, known locally as the Energiewende. Nuclear and coal are being phased out in favor of wind and solar, but the transition will take time, and in the meantime some energy source has to fill the gap.

Merkel will use strongly-worded condemnations while still seeking cheap gas from Putin.
Some people think she doesn’t need gas from Putin

(Obvious fake)
Merkel and Putin are two of a kind.
Thanks CondoleezzaProtege.
Navalny never caught on as an “opposition leader” in Russia and now it looks like his deep state handlers have deemed him expendable.
It will be interesting to see of Merkel falls for this obvious poisoning ruse and cancels the energy pipeline.
It will also be interesting to see how quickly Navalny “recovers” once her decision is made.
Obama refused to sanction Nordstream 2 over the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This would be another foreign policy win for POTUS.
Germany has never needed this gas. It was always a political deal between Putin and Merkel.

They certainly do need the gas IF Merkel continues her insane policy of shutting down nuclear and coal powered electricity generation plants. And theres no sign that theyve yet recovered their sanity.
But the news media told me Trump was all for Putin killing people, and wasn’t doing anything about it.
Next thing you know, environmentalists will be telling us how great this pipeline is.
Nice stab-in-back wording here by Mr Meyer by making it appear that the US is exempting itself from increasing defense spending. In the near decade since the ENTIRE NATO Signatories agreed to up defense spending to 2% GDP, The United States has exceeded 3% for every year. Germany, a very prosperous country with considerable trade surpluses has moved its defense spending from 1 to 1.5%. This is just one of the reasons that PDJT is reducing US Military presence in Germany and incresing it in Poland.
*** Navalny never caught on as an opposition leader in Russia and now it looks like his deep state handlers have deemed him expendable ***
This reminds me of the Skripal “poisoning”. DJT wasn’t on board when May contacted him. Later she told him 3 children who took bread from the Skripals, and the ducks they gave t bread to at a pond were poisoned. ...
Except no children or ducks were poisoned by novichok.
Is there some reason Germany shouldn’t get the best deal on gasoline imports which would be via Nordstream2?
Isn’t that being a good steward of German $$?
I can’t help but think that all the Russia, Russia, Russia stuff is just a precursor to our usual Modus Operandi.
Anyone whose resources we want is deemed bad. Syria is an active example, and we desire the same for Venezuela. The Bear is gonna bite back.
If Germany doesn’t buy from Russia, surely China will, won’t they?
Take the issue up with Trump. He wants USA and Germany to have fairer exchange of resources and $$.
Of course the Skripals have never been seen again for fear they would expose the deep state false flag...which should make Navalny's "recovery" interesting.
My guess is they'll recycle him into Ukraine like they did that other deep state puppet Saakashvili, or make him a Brookings "fellow" while they create a new narrative for him.
Either way, Navalny will have a deep state fist up his backside for a long time.
The situation is a typical false flag or outright fake.
There was a response ready - another Russian sanctions for a cause that didn’t exist at the time.
First the attempted coup in Belarus that had to prompt a ‘Russian invasion’ - failed to materialize.
Now ‘the fighter against regime’ poisoned, again with super-duper ‘Novichok’ - a World’s most toxic chemical weapon which failed 100% times before.
That’s a shame, a clown show.
The fact that the narrative is pushed here by a notorious Ukrainian troll makes it even more fishy.
