Has been looking for a payday................
Another idiot who doesn’t get how music licensing works.
Well, for that matter, like actors, musicians tend to be morons.
I believe that if TRUMP has paid the NASCAP or BMI dues he can use the song.
What was that great Eddie Grant song after ‘Electric Avenue’?
Yeah, that’s a trick question.
What a loser
Its a SONG..anyone can use it, sing it do whatever they want with it they dont have to ask permission
The funny thing is, you can’t find the original version of “Electric Avenue” on Spotify or other streaming services. Only crappy versions that he re-recorded. So I’m sure he owns the copyright to the song, but obviously he signed away some rights on the original recording and won’t get much money if he signs off on the hit version going up on the streaming services.
Where be my money?
Musically it's kind of a joke of a song. I think if I wrote a song that was childishly basic and nobody had listened to for 35 years I'd be happy about it.
When you sell your album to an organization such as ASCAP, BMI, or SESAC; that music is licenced to be played by others.
TV stations, radio, theaters, movies, various promotions can pay a royalty to ASCAP, BMI, or SESAC; and use the music from their catalog.
As long as Pres. Trump’s campaign paid royalties - you got your money (and have received royalty checks for years), so you were paid. The Trump campaign paid for the rights to use the catalog, and people heard your music - the correct thing to do is say “thank you”, and then stfu.
You may own the Copyright, so no one else can record your song without your permission - but ANYONE who pays the royalties, can use your songs as they see fit.
Eddie hasn’t had a paycheck in a long time.
Its a stupid song.
He should be grateful anyone still plays or listens to it.
How much did Eddie sue Google which owns Youtube for all the people who illegally uploaded his song? If I was a musician I would be pretty ticked off that a multi-billion dollar company is making billions in ad revenue from copyrighted music and I wasn’t selling any records because of people going to Youtube to download or stream it for nothing.
Anything that will stop the playing of “Electric Avenue” will lessen human suffering.
The video is only 54 seconds long, but “fair use” is very subjective.
Suffer from anyone knowing who the heck he is?
No one knew his name when the song was popular!
