Ah, Georgetown. One of the many schools formerly known as Catholic.

Thompson was a great NCAA college coach - I remember that team with Pat Ewing which went up against Dean Smith’s Tarheels - a team which had Michael Jordan, James Worthy and Sam Perkins - and Georgetown fought them down to the wire. RIP.

It’s not nice to speak ill of the dead, so RIP, Coach Thompson.

I think that was the game where Ewing goaltended about five times in the first 5 minutes of the game.

I have a fond memory of my Princeton Tigers (ranked #64) vs. Georgetown (#1) to an almost HUGE upset in the mid-1990s. The Tigers out-played then down to the last possession. Even John Thompson knew the Tigers deserved the victory. He was a class act.

Don't recall any.
He was in part responsible for the introduction of "thug" ball which later spilled over into the college and nba game.

John Thompson, Georgetown basketball coach. AKA Bill Russel's back-up.
That's two great careers right there.

RIP John Thompson, Hall of Famer!
Thompson was a man of conviction.

RIP Lute Olson, Hall of Famer!
Same Era! Lute was at Iowa. I watched Georgetown vs Iowa in the Elite Eight back then, a 1 pointer. Those were the best college basketball years.
