Thompson was a great NCAA college coach - I remember that team with Pat Ewing which went up against Dean Smith’s Tarheels - a team which had Michael Jordan, James Worthy and Sam Perkins - and Georgetown fought them down to the wire. RIP.
I think that was the game where Ewing goaltended about five times in the first 5 minutes of the game.
He did have great teams
Did he ever recruit a while player?
He had the whole Eastern seaboard and Midlands to draw from
Racist? I mean . .. you know what I mean
Never cared for him or his racial views, but agree he shouild rest in peace.
How he coached an Olympic team with a Danny Manning who he micromanaged into zero points is beyond understanding.
Georgetown's Fred Brown heard a call to pass the ball--and he did just that--passing the ball to UNC's James Worthy for the win. That was one amazing game and crazy Tar Heel party in Chapel Hill after the buzzer sounded.
John Thompson was a gentleman and a fine coach, winning the NCAA Championship in 1984. RIP.
I was there and 85 were the David , Villanova , defeated the goliath Georgetown and that epic 1985 NCAA basketball championship
Rest in peace . John Thompson
you were the greatest of the great!!
