CDC: Face Masks With Valves Or Vents Don’t Prevent Spread Of COVID
Scary Mommy via Yahoo ^ | 8/14/20 | Christina Marfice

By this point, it’s pretty clear that one of the best things we can do to protect ourselves and others from the coronavirus is wearing face masks whenever we’re out in public. But it’s important to remember that this disease is still new, and scientists are still learning about it. And now, the CDC has updated its face mask recommendations, warning people that masks that have built in valves or vents aren’t actually effective in helping slow the spread of the virus.

One extremely popular model of mask that has a built-in valve is made by 3M. Its high-tech appearance makes it a type of mask many people have been choosing to wear as they go about their daily business. But this kind of mask is actually meant for construction workers to wear in hot and dusty environments. When it comes to slowing viral particles when the wearer exhales them? It doesn’t actually work for that.

A brochure on 3M’s website illustrates how these types of masks actually work — by allowing hot, humid air to escape through the valve.

“The purpose of masks is to keep respiratory droplets from reaching others to aid with source control,” the CDC’s new guidance reads. However, masks with one-way valves or vents allow air to be exhaled through a hole in the material, which can result in expelled respiratory droplets that can reach others. This type of mask does not prevent the person wearing the mask from transmitting COVID-19 to others. Therefore, CDC does not recommend using masks for source control if they have an exhalation valve or vent.”

This is about control Government controlling us Freepers who are ill informed trying to control other freepers.

Eggactly! N95s by 3M are still being built (and hoarded) in China. Our government wants them for themselves to dole out to our health care heros.....citizens....not so much.

Bring back Mfg to the US and we'll all have the best mask available.

Agree with ENOUGH.

The problem is that there are few physical and philosophical descendants of the founders. People will only rise up when they truly believe that risking everything is better than the status quo.

Duke University tested 14 different types of face masks. The N95 Respirator with exhalation valve placed 7 out of 14: https://nypost.com/2020/08/11/duke-university-face-mask-researchers-share-more-on-study/ That means that 7 popular masks, including the bandanna and gaiter, have not been banned even though they are far worse than the valved masks.

I wear a high-end valved respirator mask with replaceable filters that is manufactured by RZ Masks. The RZ Mask fits tight around my face and over my nose with no gaps, and stays in place and does not slip below my nose when I talk or walk. Most importantly, it does not fog my glasses, which means I am more likely to keep the mask on than take it off when I am in public, particularly when I need to need to read something in a public place. (Even walking on the street with fogged glasses can be a challenge.) Indeed, I suspect that if the various masks were tested in real- world situations based upon how people actually wear them (i.e., large side gaps, under or barely covering the nose), my RZ Valved Mask would rank even higher.

I follow Biden’s example and hang my mask from my ear.

History shows that there may very well never be a time when the people say enough. I’ve seen no indication in this country that we are anywhere near that point.

I go to Kroger at least twice a week, I have yet to see one person other than myself not wearing a mask.

And 75% of the people wearing the masks were wearing them incorrectly. Or they were wearing the wrong type. Or they were taking them on and off to talk. It was like Idiocracy has come to our country. The fact that very few people seem to recognize the level of absurdity to which this has reached tells me that we’re in a heap of trouble.

Take back education from the Marxists.
Homeschool, charter school, whatever.

It may take two generations but it’s past time and late in awakening.

Until then we adults must fight back.

Hopefully not too late, but I fear it may be too late for these United States and by default the whole world if this US light of hope for freedom loving people everywhere is extinguished.

It is their plan to crush the US, which is the only thing standing in the way of their global dreams of tyranny.

I believe this global tyranny is coming soon and most are completely unaware and unprepared for the evil that will come and the dark things in store for the whole earth.

Get right with your Creator everyone. While it is still daylight. Prepare your loved ones. Guard your plans closely. Be mindful of your digital footprint. Social credit score is already here and it WILL be used against you.

...I suspect my girl secretly switched my coffee out to decaf this morning =o)

What’s funny is I wear a surgical type mask in the grocery store when shopping. Those plastic bags in the produce dept. are always hard to open, so I just put my fingers under the mask, moisten them with saliva and then the bag is much easier to open. Doubt any virus could get out as I do it very quickly and wipe my finger dry on the mask.

3M N95 mask with exhaust valve.

Less efficient during the exhaust stroke, but N95 rated efficieny for the intake stroke.

So, I seal the outside of the exhaust valve; and just like that, N95 rated efficiency for the exhaust stroke.

So what are they saying? Homemade hankerchief masks with sewn on elastic bands are superior?

Even if you look at the filtration ability of a common N95 mask, the virus is small enough to penetrate the screen even if worn correctly (which most people don’t). Masks are simply a feel-good measure that allows people to *think* they are doing something useful and effective. Don’t feed “the Karens” they bite!

AI social media brainwashing is in full force and the examples you share reveal a sliver of it.

I agree that is probably too late, but I must maintain some hope, somehow, somewhere, or the result is futility.

I’d love to know what the real IQ of these last two generations has become, because it certainly doesn’t have appeared to maintained the level of thirty years ago. Wouldn’t be shocked to learn that it dropped 20 points.

Marxist education takeover has done this to our nation.

“Never let a crisis go to waste”
This is the perfect time to move our children away from Marxist indoctrination to sow the seeds for future patriots

There’s not a mask on the market that will PREVENT the spread of Covid.

But guess what? Even a cheap paper mask will help slow down the risk.

The only purpose face diapers serve is to ease the anxiety of a death-obsessed fearful populace.

In California, face diapers work because Governor Nancy-Pelosi's-Nephew has commanded that they work. The diapers will come off only when Governor Nancy-Pelosi's Nephew announces they may come off.

The Chinese and the Democrat/Left Party have together really done a number on Americans ... especially formerly courageous American "men".

By how much? Where is the risk analysis? Are they doing more harm than good for people’s physical and mental health, and social and economical well-being?

Reducing the speed limit to 10 mph would prevent a majority of the car deaths in the world, but we don’t do that for good reasons.

“You’re fine with the no shirt, no shoes, no service rule...”

How do you know? I don’t care one way or the other.

“...but you can’t handle a little mask.”

I CAN “handle” a mask. I WON’T handle a mask — me being a freedom-loving American and all, and disbelieving people who lie to us about the flu to take down Trump.

“when was the last time you wandered through the cereal aisle without shoes?”

I’m guessing around 1993 at Foodland in Kihei. Not positive about the date.

I imagine it's just the opposite if it is anything like the scoring of the SATs. I know for a fact that the SATs have been "recentered" 3 times in the last 30 years. "Recentered" is liberal speak for raising the whole graph up. IOW a 1200 now was a 900 25 years ago. When you consider that the average scores have continued to fall in spite of this, it tells you just how uneducated these kids are.

So, I think it is likely that some similar slight of hand has been incorporated into IQ measurement.

The first sentence completes the lie. Most Americans realize that wearing of any mask has extremely limited effect at controlling the spread. Like zero effect. Masks are noting but government mandated control devices.

If you know ANYTHING about a virus and a mask, then you know it is absolutely FUTILE to use a mask to stop a virus. Comparatively, the virus is so small you need an electron microscope to see it, the mask you can see with your naked eye. Stopping the virus with a mask is like putting up a chain-link fence to stop the mosquitos. But “sheeple” will follow any dammed flag that is put in front of them. This mask exercise is a test of the IQ of the public. Would these same people put up a chain-link fence to stop mosquitos if they were told to? I think they would.

There is tons of evidence. Risk analysis as you call it. The only physical and mental damage as I see it is due to Freepers getting their knickers in a knot over safety mandates. They needs to shut up and grow up.

Face masks: A simple, effective tool to slow the spread of COVID ...

Reducing the speed limit to 10 mph would prevent a majority of the car deaths in the world, but we don’t do that for good reasons.

Bad example. 99.99% of all roads DO have a speed limit. Reasonable. Like masks.

“Face Masks With Valves Or Vents Don’t Prevent Spread Of COVID”

Neither do cloth face masks, surgical masks or N-95 masks.

They make some marginal reduction in transmission rates.
