Aviators in a small training detachment aboard the aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford were recently counseled by leadership after wearing an unauthorized and inappropriate patch, the Navy said.
Half of the patch, according to a photo on Twitter, included the aircraft carrier's logo with the words "America's Newest Carrier" and "Integrity at the Helm." The other half, however, depicted an image of a bat with the words "China's Newest Carrier," a reference to one theory about the origins of the novel coronavirus.
"The patch in question was inappropriate and not consistent with uniform regulations, which state patches must be appropriate in nature and approved by commanding officers," Cmdr. Jennifer Cragg, spokeswoman for Naval Air Force Atlantic, said in an email Thursday.

Owwwww. Wouldn’t want anyone to think we had taken a derogatory slant on this issue. Oh, did I type that.
10/10 Shut up and take my money.
Clever. But you don’t get to make up your own uniform accessories.
Our transgendered military.......
Did Commander Jennifer used to be a guy?
Now that’s funny.
Agreed. The patch is great, but members of the military must abide by the uniform requirements. It would be improper to make exceptions simply because the sentiment is right or the content clever.
That is so cool. I’d love to have one but I am not worthy
Amazing that our Naval leadership is seemingly more concerned with a “derogatory” patch ( really wonder how a bat on a patch could be considered derogatory - perhaps Naval brass knows something we don’t) when they are seemingly unconcerned about China’s recent very aggressive and provocative actions
Disagree. In my day, during deployments squadrons would come up with cruise patches all the time. About the only thing you had to worry about was making sure the CO signed off on it, and he was usually only worried about staying in good graces with the CAG.
The USN has been sending destroyers through China’s claimed waters in the south china Sea regularly, daring the Chinese to do something. We have 3 Nimitz Carriers in the area (and who knows how many fast attacks). Hardly nothing.
Agreed. They need to wear the patch on their civvies ...
actually, you do...
patrol names and such...
God Bless America
Saved by the Navy man who will risk making a joke.
At least Samoa was able to sneak in its two bits, er bats:
Bat’s hilarious
Those still have to be authorized.
