Chicago will teach online only when school resumes in September, the mayor said on Wednesday, and New York City announced checkpoints at bridges and tunnels to enforce a quarantine on travelers from 35 states on a list of coronavirus hot spots.
The teachers union and many parents in Chicago had objected to a plan to allow students the option of attending class in pods of 15 pupils twice a week.
Local media reported that the Chicago Teachers Union had called for a strike vote over the issue. [ ]
Los Angeles has already announced that students will be kept home, while New York Mayor Bill de Blasio has said he expects to have children attend classes part of the time. [ ]
De Blasio told a news briefing on Wednesday the city will erect checkpoints at key entry points to ensure that travelers from 35 other U.S. states comply with New Yorks 14-day quarantine mandate.
Travelers coming in from those states will be given information about the quarantine and will be reminded that it is required, not optional, de Blasio said. Fines for not observing the quarantine order could be as high as $10,000. [ ]
Teams will be deployed at Penn Station in Midtown Manhattan on Thursday, he (Dr. Ted Long, who oversees the citys contact tracing program) said, to ensure travelers stop to complete a travel form.

Sorry to hear this and I hope things work out for the best, for all.
I wonder if the city people who passed this insane legislation ever tried composting in an area with an increasing population of black bears. We drive ours a half mile to the top of our property and leave it. There’s no trace left the next day.
Our Constitution, Article 16, is really clear - ‘that the people have a right to bear arms for the defence of themselves and the State’.
State statutes allow any resident over age 16 to carry concealed - younger than 16 can do so with a permission slip from a parent.
1. I’ve got to believe that the NYC checkpoints violate the 1st Amendment Freedom of Association, as well as the Commerce Clause and quite possibly the 4th and 5th Amendments. Pretty much par for the course with DeCommio.
2. Wasn’t NYC’s government all up in arms about other states floating the idea of quarantining NY’ers back in March and April. Hypocrisy, thy name is Democrat.
Liberal politicians...getting in touch with their inner Commandante.
Exactly.....
The US Constitution is pretty clear too, but that hasnt stopped the liberals yet.
Im still somewhat surprised that the VT liberals have not gutted their Constitution yet. The dems in NH keep trying but Governor Sununu, God bless him, red sharpie in hand vetoes their attempts.
Good to hear - I am selling a house here in Southern NH this month!
(Not leaving NH, just moved to another house nearby recently.)
I doubt a hardcore NY Dem would want to move here though - there are “Trump 2020” signs everywhere in the Plaistow area!
Chicago Catholic schools to reopen
Forget the bears. In any area with public sewer systems you can bet there will be people using their toilets for trash cans. And if the public works guys thought non-flushable wipes were a nightmare...
But rich folks can afford to send out their food waste. No nasty composting or busted sewer lines for them for them.
And the idiots will bring their extreme politics with them. No lesson learned.
There are a fair amount here, but we’re loosely in the Upper Valley region, and what with Dartmouth, it’s liberal city.
Lots of Bernie supporters and I’ve even seen a Fauci 2020 sign. God help us.
My son lives in Pembroke and I’ve seen several ardent Trump supporters, based on the size of their signs.
Isn't that what pubic school kids have been getting for decades now? Teach your kids to read and then start buying them books.

I know they don’t learn much, but she misses her friends a lot. And she needs to learn how to handle herself in a fight.
If I get a call from school for a fight, she had better won it.
There are a lot in northern VT, but those with a business are cautious, because the rabid progressives are pretty violent.
