Chicago will teach online only when school resumes in September, the mayor said on Wednesday, and New York City announced checkpoints at bridges and tunnels to enforce a quarantine on travelers from 35 states on a list of coronavirus hot spots.
The teachers union and many parents in Chicago had objected to a plan to allow students the option of attending class in pods of 15 pupils twice a week.
Local media reported that the Chicago Teachers Union had called for a strike vote over the issue. [ ]
Los Angeles has already announced that students will be kept home, while New York Mayor Bill de Blasio has said he expects to have children attend classes part of the time. [ ]
De Blasio told a news briefing on Wednesday the city will erect checkpoints at key entry points to ensure that travelers from 35 other U.S. states comply with New Yorks 14-day quarantine mandate.
Travelers coming in from those states will be given information about the quarantine and will be reminded that it is required, not optional, de Blasio said. Fines for not observing the quarantine order could be as high as $10,000. [ ]
Teams will be deployed at Penn Station in Midtown Manhattan on Thursday, he (Dr. Ted Long, who oversees the citys contact tracing program) said, to ensure travelers stop to complete a travel form.

Not all of NH is lib.
I see many Trump signs all over the place.
People here are less concerned with the consequences of making your position known because NH is a Constitutional carry state, and VERY gun friendly.
Probably explains why crime is so low here. You break into someones house, you stand a fairly high risk of being shot.
They really want to empty their cities out, don’t they.... they are so going to defund their police because the city is going to be defunded.
I can only hope and pray that they have learned their lesson and change their voting habits.
If the continue to vote dem, they are going to destroy everywhere they flee to and it will become what they left. Then there will be no place left to go.
Checkpoints at all bridges and tunnels?
Why doesn’t Denazio build a damn wall?
I am aware of two properties in VT that went for $50k and $80k over asking in the last month. One 38 acre parcel with a decrepit camp, located half a mile away from us, has been on the market for three years, with one or two showings a year. In the past four months it’s had 15, and sold - thankfully to a local. The seller told us 12 of the showings were to NY, MA & NJ residents.
I was told that VT and CT are getting most of the influx, with NH not getting quite so much.
Still, its bad enough although VT is so crazy liberal, the NYC politics are not likely to cause any significant change in VT.
So,for all the crazy liberal politics VT has, how on earth have they kept their gun freedoms all these years????
Sounds a lot like TX!
The big cities are lib...the rural areas....not so much.
I pray that the Californians (and, even NYers) moving here, in droves, don’t bring their lib voting habits with them, too.
I think I’ll put a bumper sticker on my car saying just that.
:- /
And keep praying.
Call for Snake Plissken. Snake Plissken please pick up the courtesy phone!
I just got to thinking...
What’s to keep NYS citizens from tenting/loaning their vehicles and/or cell phones to outta state family, friends, acquaintances with money.. ?
How can they prove where you came from? Just tell them you’ve been staying in a state that isn’t subject to the order. Or say you’re an illegal alien.
Has anyone told them yet that they’ll have to compost their food waste or else?
Who wants to go to NYC these days?
Don’t hold your breath.
We were Downstate recently. We saw a Lotta outta state plates while we were there.
That said, I can see a real opportunity here for folks Upstate who have a spare car that’s just sitting in the driveway...
Heh heh heh...
My town has its fair share of commies (transplants from Mass and NY). Halfway between Concord and Rochester.
Right now I barely have time to eat dinner and go to bed with this “work at home” crap. Every employer thinks ... “Work at home OK, meeting start at 7 and can be scheduled up to 8pm”. I just shut down my work PC at 9:15 ... I’d rather be driving my 1 1/2 hours to work and another 1 1/2 back just to have some home time.
My kid is 6 and going into 1st grade, I have no idea who any of her friends parents are let alone other school aged kids parents.
But ... I bet there will be some BIG grumblings going on soon ... I’m sure I’ll hear them when I go to the Dump on Sunday to bring the trash. Maybe at the Dump I can talk to some parents.
We all know the “Distance Learning” was a complete joke. My kid learned nothing for the last 4 months of Kindergarten. And the kids will get another year of BS no-learning!
I just received an email survey from my Y. They are planning to have some kind of opportunity for people to bring their children to the Y, either part-time or full-time, where they will get socialization and exercise and a Y employee to help them with their distance learning. There is camp going on at the Y this summer. If children can go to the Y and do their schoolwork there, why cant they just go to school?
Exactly....what makes a Y China Virus free, and not the nearby school(s)??
This is insane.
Oh, and I love that special touch...that they’ll be teaching these tots social distancing.
Good grief.
