New book on Matt Drudge shines spotlight on reclusive blogger

And Mr. Drudge has done just that — “weaponized” his site.

The reclusive blogger has targeted President Trump of late, posting many stories from liberal sites (which hitherto got little play on his site). No one knows why. But even Mr. Trump has weighed in on the change: “I gave up on Drudge (a really nice guy) long ago, as have many others. People are dropping off like flies!” the president tweeted in April.

I know a thing or two about Mr. Drudge: I’ve known Matt (whom I call “Doc” because of his initials, MD) for more than 20 years and I ran the Drudge Report in the mornings for nearly four years. But even I hardly know the guy: I rarely saw him, and we talked on the phone only a few times a year (usually for hours, but not often).

Does Matt Drudge even still own the Drudge Report? There have been rumors that he sold it. Maybe to Google.

Supposedly Matt Drudge and Trump were good friends up until a year or so ago. Drudge spent time at Mar-A-Lago and the two often golfed together. They they had a huge falling out over immigration. Drudge, who is a good friend of Ann Coulter, parroted her view that Trump was becoming a failed President because he wasn't doing enough fast enough on immigration and building the wall, (which was a bit unfair in my opinion because there is really little he can do without Congress). So Drudge started running a few negative stories criticizing Trump on immigration, then Trump came out and blasted Drudge saying his site was failing and losing viewers in droves. At which point Drudge went full anti-Trump 24/7 nuclear and has been so ever since.

If this version of events is true, it seems pretty petty on Drudge's part. If he is really a conservative and if he really does want something done about immigration it seems he's cutting off his nose to spite his face by trying to destroy Trump.

“he’s cutting off his nose to spite his face by trying to destroy Trump”

Yeah, there’s a lot of that going on.

Nobody here gives a shit about Drudge.

I've never liked him, never bothered with his website.

Didn't have to, because anything he posted would immediately be reposted here.

His TV show showed him for the whiny little bitch he is.

Coulter used to have some sense. But her fixation on trying to get Trump to act imperiously was odd. It was like she aligned with Obama and the Democrats in promoting the Presidency to a kingship. Weird, in my opinion.

So the rumors of a secret sale are untrue?

Or is this writer just not in the know? Or is a foreign (i.e., China) buyoff, instead of a buyout, a possibility?

Drudge reminds me of David Brock. I wonder if they are an item now.

That IS petty. But I feel the same way the writers of National Review and Jonah Goldberg have gone on Trump. They hate him so much they are blindly helping Biden win.
