Cellular aging ‘master circuit’ discovered: Extended human lifespan to follow?
Study Finds ^ | July 19, 2020 | by John Anderer

SAN DIEGO — The average American lives to be around 75 or 80 years old; but if you had an opportunity to slow down the aging process and live an extra couple of decades would you take it? It’s a loaded question, strife with philosophical, religious, and societal considerations. Humans have pondered the possibilities of extended, or even immortal, life for as long as we’ve inhabited this planet. But at the end of the day it’s all just a daydream, right?

Not necessarily, according to new research out of the University of California, San Diego. The study, led by UCSD molecular biologists and bioengineers, produced a groundbreaking discovery regarding the intricacies of cellular aging. In light of their findings, researchers say the notion of “dramatically” extending human life isn’t so farfetched after all.

Each human’s lifespan and personal rate of aging is determined by the aging of their individual cells. Originally, the study’s authors just wanted to investigate if different types of cells age at different speeds based on different stimuli/causes. To that end, they studied aging in the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. This provided a suitable model with which to track aging mechanisms of various cell types. Two different paths of aging

The research ultimately finds that two cells made of the exact same genetic material, and residing in the same bodily location, can age in vastly different ways and molecular/cellular trajectories. This finding, of course, warranted further research. So, via a variety of complex techniques, researchers discovered that about half of the cells age due to a slow decline in the stability of their nucleus. Meanwhile, the other cells appear to age primarily because of dysfunctioning mitochondria.

Cells seem to start off on either the nucleolar or mitochondrial path of aging very early on in their existence. They continue to follow that same aging process until death. Very importantly, researchers say they were able to find the “master circuit” in charge of controlling these aging processes and paths among cells.

“To understand how cells make these decisions, we identified the molecular processes underlying each aging route and the connections among them, revealing a molecular circuit that controls cell aging, analogous to electric circuits that control home appliances,” says senior study author Nan Hao, an associate professor in the Section of Molecular Biology, Division of Biological Sciences, in a release. Extending human healthspan

This discovery allowed the study’s authors to construct a new model of the “aging landscape.” This new perspective led to a revelation: Hao and his team believe they can conceivably manipulate and optimize the aging process. Using a series of computer simulations, the research team reprogrammed the master molecular circuit via DNA modification. This facilitated the creation of a new, novel aging route offering a much longer lifespan.

“Our study raises the possibility of rationally designing gene or chemical-based therapies to reprogram how human cells age, with a goal of effectively delaying human aging and extending human healthspan,” Hao says.

Next, researchers want to continue testing their new model on more complex cells before eventually upgrading to human cells.

“Much of the work featured in this paper benefits from a strong interdisciplinary team that was assembled,” says Biological Sciences Professor of Molecular Biology Lorraine Pillus, a study co-author. “One great aspect of the team is that we not only do the modeling but we then do the experimentation to determine whether the model is correct or not. These iterative processes are critical for the work that we are doing.”

The study is published in Science.

With the direction this world is heading, I’ll pass. As it is, humans will probably extinct themselves before I’m dead anyway.

Do you want to go thru another lifetime of working again?

Given the knowledge my mind contains, I would not have to worry about a lifetime of working.

Yes. And those cells “decide” which way to evolve - like T-Cells. Some become “memory” cells to lie in wait for future infections (like in this article) and others become immediate soldiers. Plus all the “messenger” chemicals that are used to control what’s going on. It is absolutely mind boggling.

Personally, I have put my brain on the organ donation list. One stipulation, it is only to be transplanted it a healthy, incredibly good looking 21 year old body.

Same gender?

Same species?

Really need to spell things out.

A black male Labrador Retriever that previously thought he was a lesbian. I haven’t make up my mind about whether I should get a sex change after that transplant. I’m trying my best to be woke. I got race (black), species (canine), fetish (furries), homosexual (lesbian) and potentially transgender locked up.

There is nothing to add, although the fetish thing has allowed me a sure knowledge that at no point now or in the future do I want to party with you, or any version of you in any fashion.

Ever.

**** “The GOVERNMENT can’t afford for you to live that long, either................” ****

I’m Old but I’m pretty tough ... already died twice and I Miss it. Those that plan on enforcing stupid stuff may meet me (more than once) sooner than they planned ... but it will all work out GOOD.
Retirement is an artificial and painful concept, more of a Duty than a Reward ... “You” go ahead and Die twice and then tell me I am wrong.

What can I say? It’s self improvement. Currently I am simply a lesbian trapped in a man’s body.

Just had Quadruple By-pass heart surgery in mid April.

Was having a heart attack at 3 AM one morning.

Woke up and felt like someone was BBQing a goat inside my chest.

Told my wife we gotta go to the ER NOW!.

Luckily it’s only a 3 minute drive to the hospital, or I would have died..............

*** “Woke up and felt like someone was BBQing a goat inside my chest” ***
I have died twice (the following is just Me a dumbsshit)

By-Pass ... Never had that (very descriptive Goat example and plan to do my best avoid it)
As for me
I Do Not fear Death ... I fear Dying (especially the Pain)
The Pain I have endured (My Back and my Ribs) has always been almost 100% non Life Threatening unless I couldn’t figure out a way to sleep which eventually will kill you (wishing Death upon yourself isn’t all that Glamorous nor is it very effective).
I have Not experienced a Real Life Threatening Disease (just bad Accidents and the associated Trauma and pain that I have begged not to Survive from)
Heart Attacks must really Suck, But now at 65 I will (sell my Motorcycle) probably start to have more Old Folks frailties and my prognosis will not be good because “I welcome Death”, I have been there, twice. Again I do not fear Death, I fear the Dying part.
I have been preparing for years but I figure I have to do it right this time.
(PS When I died I didn’t hear a single Harp nor any Organ playing any Church Music either time, just the sound of “Light” which is basically a gazillion voices (that don’t actually speak) that I understood 100% but cannot remember anything told to me, nor can I describe in any accurate way, you’ll know it when ya experience it, besides when ya get there (We all do) it is a 2 way conversation, I do remember that
(PS PS Time does not exist at all, if you had a 5 Billion year conversation with the “Light”, it wouldn’t even be a flash)
OK that is really all I remember ... Not a single bit of it was Drug induced, I either flushed or threw away all that crap the Hospital gave me (both times) as It made me stupid when I took it and I still had to work (Insurance Co must have loved me)

Don’t do anything stupid (like dying)
Remember ... STUPID is My Department!
I’m the Dumbshit in this conversation and it now it appears that I am also Off BBQ Goat, cause it hurts me now ...
(Also please tell them ER Gals how much you appreciate them)

George Carlin.

Organ donor programs.
Does that **** bother you a little bit? Sound like Joseph Mangle has been sitting in on some of those meetings or something. The thing that bothers me the most about it is, they’re run by the motor vehicle bureau. I figure hey **** if you got to wait on a line that long for a kidney, **** it. Do without. It’s the motor vehicle bureau in most states who sends you the little card your supposed to carry right next to your driver’s license, in your wallet. A little card, your supposed to fill it out, and on it your supposed to list the organs your willing to give in case you die. Oh, are these people out of their ****ing minds or something? Do you honestly believe that if a paramedic finds that card on you in an automobile accident, he going to try to save your life? Bull****! He’s looking for parts man. Absolutely. “Look Dan, here’s that lower intestine we’ve looking for. Nevermind the oxygen, this man’s a donor.” Bull****, they can have my rectum and my anus. That’s all I’m giving, take them and get out of here. Put them in your bag and get the **** out of my life. That’s all I’m giving. I don’t want some guy poking around in me hoping I die, I want to live. I don’t want to die. That’s the whole secret of life... not dying ! I figured that **** out alone in third grade.

By-Pass ... Never had that (very descriptive Goat example and plan to do my best avoid it)

I had warnings for several weeks before, but I thought it was just heartburn, would take an antacid or two and it would go away. I couldn't walk for more than a few yards at a time when the 'burning' would start. I should have known it was not heartburn, but I was in denial.

I remember the cardiologist saying when I woke up after a blockage test, "I have some good news and some bad news. First the bad news: You need quadruple by-pass surgery. Next the good news: There is no damage to the heart muscle. you're a lucky man, most people don't find out they need a quad bypass until after the autopsy.".................."
