I’d have to say the Beatles with misgivings to Steely Dan.

The Seekers. Judith Durham may have had the finest voice of the 60s groups, clean, precise, and a great range.

The Moody Blues.
Started following them in 1966, the year I graduated high school, with their album, Days of Future Past, and the lead song, Nights in White Satin, which put them on top of the charts for the next decade.
I was blessed to be able to see them in Las Vegas in 2016, on their 50th anniversary tour and my 50th high school reunion.
Best rock and roll band ever.

My favorite '80's group is Johnny Staton & the Feathers.

If we are going by hit songs, then my pick won't be popular. But, if we are looking at bands that released consistently strong albums over a long period of time, then my pick is
XTC. Other than their first two albums, which had their moments but were ultimately just quirky, XTC's catalog stands up well to this day. From 1979's Drums and Wires to their final album in 2000, Wasp Star, the band produced consistently strong and varied albums.
