Why Pornography is the Greatest Threat to Today's Church
Pure Life ^ | 2017 | Steve Gallagher

If it is true that one out of every five men sitting in America’s pews is saturating his mind with the evil images of pornography, how does this effect the overall level of godliness in the Church? It seems that the general urgency to live a consecrated life is at an all-time low. Self-centered living seems to have replaced true sacrificial love. A hunger for God has been exchanged for a lust for entertainment. While the Church is weathering a fierce spiritual onslaught from without, the godly character needed for this battle rots within.

I believe in the Church Triumphant. However, if we are going to return to the godly living of our forefathers, we must face the blight of pornography in an honest and forthright manner. The greatest threat to the Church today is not so much the pornography itself as much as it is the lackadaisical attitude many Christians have about its wrongness. Minimizing its wickedness might alleviate some of the shame for those using it, but it will not help to halt the epidemic. Let’s recognize pornography for the evil thing it is. Perhaps then we can effectively help those contaminated by it and do more to arrest its incursion into the Christian ranks.

Failure to preach Christ crucified is the biggest threat to the church today.

The biggest threat is non belief. People make the mistake of thinking science has all the answers. The Soviets found out otherwise.

Pornography? Are you talking about the art in the Sistine Chapel? Or the statues of David?

No, that’s not the biggest threat.
The biggest threat is that the Church is no longer interested in saving souls. Its priority now is on social justice, global warming, illegal immigrants, and supporting abortion funding democrats.

And some people here on FR are more concerned about communion in the hand.

One in 5 of all men, maybe. What about the under 60 crowd?

You might not know this, but from 1960’s SCOTUS determination, pornography is covered under the 1st Amendment. Now, I believe that every CITIZEN has the obligation to determine whether that it is right for them, or not. Granted, as with any known to the world vice, there will be those who cannot see their own entrapment. As long as they do not endanger the public safety, leave them be. Yet do, prosecute any who extend their entrapment vice to include others, both willingly, and the unwitting.

yeah, pornography is a big thing.

But rejection of the Eucharist is the path to hell

10 But whenever you enter a town and they do not make you welcome, go out into its streets and say, 11 "We wipe off the very dust of your town that clings to our feet, and leave it with you. Yet be sure of this: the kingdom of God is very near." 12 I tell you, on the great Day it will be more bearable for Sodom than for that town.

Ouch! But He doesn’t stop there. He goes on to name names – calling out cities by name.

Alas for you, Chorazin! Alas for you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. 14 And still, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon at the Judgement than for you. 15 And as for you, Capernaum, did you want to be raised high as heaven? You shall be flung down to hell. 16 'Anyone who listens to you listens to me; anyone who rejects you rejects me, and those who reject me reject the one who sent me.'

Capernaum has a special place in Christ’s ministry, the location of the Bread of Life discourse. From John:

I am the living bread which has come down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is my flesh, for the life of the world.' 52 Then the Jews started arguing among themselves, 'How can this man give us his flesh to eat?' 53 Jesus replied to them: In all truth I tell you, if you do not eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Anyone who does eat my flesh and drink my blood has eternal life, and I shall raise him up on the last day. 55 For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. 56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me and I live in him. 57 As the living Father sent me and I draw life from the Father, so whoever eats me will also draw life from me. 58 This is the bread which has come down from heaven; it is not like the bread our ancestors ate: they are dead, but anyone who eats this bread will live forever. 59 This is what he taught at Capernaum in the synagogue.

60 After hearing it, many of his followers said, 'This is intolerable language. How could anyone accept it?' 61 Jesus was aware that his followers were complaining about it and said, 'Does this disturb you? 62 What if you should see the Son of man ascend to where he was before? 63 'It is the spirit that gives life, the flesh has nothing to offer. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life. 64 'But there are some of you who do not believe.' For Jesus knew from the outset who did not believe and who was to betray him. 65 He went on, 'This is why I told you that no one could come to me except by the gift of the Father.' 66 After this, many of his disciples went away and accompanied him no more.

This IS my body

I think this can also be extrapolated to internet use as a whole, especially people being addicted to computer games and social media. If people are addicted to the internet, they are not going to be reading the Scriptures or be open to the Gospel, Satan’s got them totally distracted.

Pornography, as a thing, is free speech. It used to be a much worse “production” environment with lots of trafficking and drug use. The industry has changed over the last decade or so.

I think it’s boring. But, to each his own. I don’t think it’s any church’s biggest problem. I think it DOES have an impact on the sexual attitudes and expectations of young people. Ut that is another discussion.

7 out of 10 divorces are filed by women. 40 percent of all kids are born out of wedlock. You can have it all baby. The church has gone along. So this guy thinks men are the biggest problem in the church.

Three woman close to me filed for divorce after finding out their husbands were having long term affairs. The guys had no reason to file because they had their side piece and the wife at home doing the chores and feeding the kids. And no alimony payments out of his paycheck.

One with her best-friend.
One with his sister-in-law (his brother’s wife)
One with a girl 20 years younger.

What do you expect the wife to do?

Kate Millett, founder of NOW as witnessed by her sister:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3200158/posts

“Why are we here today?” she asked.
“To make revolution,” they answered.
“What kind of revolution?” she replied.
“The Cultural Revolution,” they chanted.
“And how do we make Cultural Revolution?” she demanded.
“By destroying the American family!” they answered.
“How do we destroy the family?” she came back.
“By destroying the American Patriarch,” they cried exuberantly.
“And how do we destroy the American Patriarch?” she replied.
“By taking away his power!”
“How do we do that?”
“By destroying monogamy!” they shouted.
“How can we destroy monogamy?”
Their answer left me dumbstruck, breathless, disbelieving my ears. Was I on planet earth? Who were these people?

“By promoting promiscuity, eroticism, prostitution and homosexuality!” they resounded.

They proceeded with a long discussion on how to advance these goals by establishing The National Organization of Women. It was clear they desired nothing less than the utter deconstruction of Western society. The upshot was that the only way to do this was “to invade every American institution. Every one must be permeated with ‘The Revolution’”: The media, the educational system, universities, high schools, K-12, school boards, etc.; then, the judiciary, the legislatures, the executive branches and even the library system.

It fell on my ears as a ludicrous scheme, as if they were a band of highly imaginative children planning a Brinks robbery; a lark trumped up on a snowy night amongst a group of spoiled brats over booze and hashish....

You might not know this, but from 1850’s SCOTUS determination, it is legal for one man to own another as property.

“Pornography, as a thing,”
__________________________
Pornography is not a thing, it causes lust, which is sin. Porn is addictive and destructive to the human mind. It is destructive to normal sexual desire. It causes marital pain leading to divorce.

I know, I was married to a porn addict and that was before the internet.

I worry a lot about children having unrestricted access to the internet.
