July 8 (UPI) -- A 6-year-old girl fishing in a Maryland river reeled in a cellphone that was dropped into the water nearly a year ago -- and it still works.
Reagan Votaw, 6, was fishing with her family in the Severn River when she reeled in her first catch of the day: a cellphone in a waterproof case.
Votaw's mother, Emily, said they took the phone home and let it rest for a while in rice to absorb any moisture. They then plugged the phone in and were surprised to see it still functioned perfectly.
The phone belonged to Preston Shapiro, an eighth-grader who said he dropped the phone into the water while kayaking nearly a year earlier.
Shapiro said he was shocked to find out that the phone still worked after nearly a year in the river.

I’m surprised she didn’t snatch some body parts or a statue.
What did she use for bait?
It would be helpful to know the brand (I didn’t see it mentioned).
Timex makes cell phones? Who knew?
Thanks for posting something that has nothing to do with Democrat criminality or media lies. It is refreshing.
What did she use for bait?
“in a waterproof case”
There’s the real hero of this story.
Which company made that case? I’m sure they would like to know about this, to advertise.
Kids, get an agent.
Shouldn’t that be phishing?
At least it did work until her dad bashed it with a metal pipe.
Hopefully they can find the guns I lost in the boating accident.
One camera spent five years at the bottom of a raging river and was retrieved during a time of drought. Pictures survived and the camera still worked.
Moral of the story: Buy Canon or Olympus waterproof cameras.
A friend who was ice fishing last season dropped his i-phone down the hole in 32 feet of water.
He had it connected to the Bluetooth in his 4-Runner and it continued to play music until he drove away. :(
LOL! there must be tons of guns at the bottom of lakes!....................
It isn’t the phone. It is the case that it is in, if you read the article. We need to know that case it is in.
If you glue a piece of iron or a rubber magnet to the back of the phone, you could fish it out with a large magnet............
My house has 3 of them in it all still working
Its called a “Black 500” set.
Wall set was a 554
