Comet NEOWISE is dimly visible in the early morning skies as the sun begins to rise.
The comet was discovered in late March and made its closest approach to the sun on Friday as it spins around our star, according to EarthSky, and now begins its return journey out to deep space. It's the third comet to tantalize astronomers with a potential nighttime show this year, only to see the first two comets that showed promise instead burn up on their approach to the sun.
But this third time appears to be the charm with NEOWISE. It's a bit tricky to spot right now as it's not super bright and only above the horizon once the sky has begun to brighten a bit with the impending sunrise, EarthSky says. Though if you know where to look and have a good pair of binoculars or a good camera, you can spot it.
From now until July 11, look low on the horizon in the northeastern skies about 45-60 minutes before sunrise, which is around 5:20 a.m. this time of year in Seattle.

I can’t look low on the horizon, I have 14,000 foot mountains blocking the view.
You need to go around the mountain.
Watched it Sunday morning. Visible by eye, better with binoculars and telescope.
I would but it’s a six hour drive.
I violated FR protocol and actually read the rest of the article. After July 15 or 16 it will be visible in the evening sky in the northwest. (The northwestern part of the sky—not just in the Northwestern US.)
Last comet I saw was the Hale-Bopp. Seems like a long time ago.
Yeah, comets are pretty neat. I also saw Hale-Bopp, and Halley’s comet too.
This comet is now in the constellation Auriga, near Theta Aurigae. It will be moving east and north. The next few days is its brightest, then it is expected to start becoming fainter.
Back when Halley’s Comet was visible, “Family Circus” had a cartoon where the Dad was showing the comet to his kids, and one of them asks, “Is that all a comet does?”
Knocking on heavens gate. Lol
You did what!?
I have to conference with the crew.
Guys...they actually read the rest of the article!
Is....is this a legal move?
Is there a penalty in effect on this play?
Loss of down, penalty “one mug of infamous coffee”?
I don’t know, this is unusual!
I’m alone...floating in the void....
/ kidding
Possible comet visibility ping
Bloated (er, Blinded) Lives Matter!
(Protest! Yell! Scream! Get a federal grant to move the mountain!
I’m still waiting to see Kohoutek.
At least it got its own song.
