Cancel Pastor Chris Hodges? Church of the Highlands faces social media firestorm

Now, questions over Hodges’ support of Trump and social media affinity for Kirk have aroused suspicion.

“Some people think it’s deep in his heart,” said the Rev. Gwen Webb, who took part in Birmingham civil rights marches in 1963 and is now associate pastor of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in west Birmingham.

“If they allowed them to continue to meet there (at Parker and Woodlawn), there was going to be a lot of hostility.

We really don’t need any more negative pushback in the city.

Negative things bring negative consequences.”

I posted this for more than one reason.

1)Because of the blatant hypocrisy!
(Lots of so called Christians attacking the pastor simply because he "liked" Charlie Kirk, a Trump supporter)

2) I had No Idea that my favorite character on NCIS New Orleans, Lucas Black, (LaSalle) is a Christian, supports our police and military and doesn't seem to GAD what Hollywood or the 'social media' think about his support of the pastor!

Amazing to think that Black has come from playing Frank Wheatley, the "boy" in Sling Blade to the Fast and Furious franchise to NCIS and Survived!

His twitter account is full of scripture and .. fishing videos! 8)

Hodges has repeatedly, emotionally apologized for liking Kirk’s social media posts and said they do not reflect his views.

Big mistake to apologize. For one, it gains you nothing, your haters see it as weakness, and it offends your supporters. Besides, Charlie Kirk is a human who is under constant attack, and throwing him over to please the haters is simply cowardice. He deserves better.

Preachers should avoid openly partisan politics, because frankly, if you are evangelizing the lost, that inevitably means Democrats. Focus on the gospel, and as they come to know the Lord, the politics will take care of themselves over time.

But having "liked" someone like Kirk who is in the fight, don't back down.

I just said, avoid partisan politics if you are a preacher, and I mean it. But its funny, when you preach by-the-book Christian morality, it sounds a lot like the traditional Republican platform.

Democrats have been bleeding Christians for years. They are fine with that, they don’t like Christians. If you actually believe in God, whatever your underlying political views, the Democrats don’t want you, and they will force you out.

The whole article is dumbfounding to me.

You have a white conservative pastor who apparently has made it a point to preach within the black community and do outreach (such as clinics and trash pickup projects) in the black community and he’s now being ostracized for doing too good a job and the “sin” of liking tweets from people connected to Trump.

In particular, there’s this paragraph:

“When Hodges announced he planned to start a church in west Birmingham in 2018, some established black pastors condemned the effort. The Rev. Michael R. Jordan, pastor of New Era Baptist Church on the west side of downtown, called Hodges a “slavemaster” and put up a sign that said, “Black Folks Need to Stay Out of White Churches.””

Tell me who’s the bigot and segregationist here? Who’s the one being divisive?

Hodges, for his part, seems to be backpedaling as fast as Drew Brees or Mike Gundy. It’s sickening that you aren’t even allowed to like something on Twitter now without people trying to start a race war over it.

The only people that would go through all the trouble of tracking someone’s likes on Twitter are political hate squads, looking for anything to tear someone down.

I don’t know Hodges at all. I wonder if his success is partly by following the megachurch formula of preaching the “prosperity gospel” that praying to Jesus makes you rich. Such ministers are heretics.

But it terms of living out the “social” gospel, he seemed to be doing everything the SJW’s say whites should do and this is how he’s treated. It’s reaching a point where the BLM/SJW/Antifa crowd are no longer able to reason. They simply demand purity from whites at all cost with no tolerance of independent thought welcome in any measure.

The tares are being separated from the wheat. Your post suggests it within so-called “churches” like the one led by the racist black preacher.

God will hold them all in derision. That’s a promise.
