The anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine lowers the death rate of COVID-19 patients, U.S. researchers have said.
Researchers conducted a retrospective analysis of over 2,500 patients hospitalized between March 10 and May 2 in the Henry Ford Health System in Michigan. Over 2,000 of the patients were given hydroxychloroquine or the anti-malarial with azithromycin, an antibiotic.
The study found 13 percent of those who received hydroxychloroquine alone died compared to 26.4 percent who didnt receive the drug.
Hydroxychloroquine alone decreased the mortality hazard ratio by 66 percent and the anti-malarial with the antibiotic decreased the ratio by 71 percent, researchers said.
The vast majority of patients were given the drug within 48 hours of admission.
Our analysis shows that using hydroxychloroquine helped saves lives, neurosurgeon Dr. Steven Kalkanis, senior vice president and chief academic officer of the health system, said in a statement. As doctors and scientists, we look to the data for insight. And the data here is clear that there was benefit to using the drug as a treatment for sick, hospitalized patients.
Patients who received hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin also had a lower mortality than people who received neither, as did patients who received azithromycin.
The findings have been highly analyzed and peer-reviewed, added Dr. Marcus Zervos, division head of Infectious Disease for Henry Ford, who co-authored the study with epidemiologist Dr. Samia Arshad.
We attribute our findings that differ from other studies to early treatment, and part of a combination of interventions that were done in supportive care of patients, including careful cardiac monitoring, Zervos said. Our dosing also differed from other studies not showing a benefit of the drug. And other studies are either not peer reviewed, have limited numbers of patients, different patient populations or other differences from our patients.

None of the patients experienced side effects, researchers said, although patients who were monitored for a heart condition were recommended not to take the treatment.
The median age of patients was 64. The group was 51 percent male and 56 percent African-American.
The conclusions came from a peer-reviewed study that was published in the International Journal of Infectious Diseases.

Nah man we got to go with that medicine that’s 15 billion dollars a month
Does this put an end to the anecdotal evidence caca argument?

TITLE: Retrospective Study Finds Hydroxychloroquine Reduced Coronavirus Death Rate
(EXCERPT)
The study analyzed 2,541 patients hospitalized among the systems six hospitals between March 10 and May 2 and found 13% of those treated with hydroxychloroquine died while 26% of those who did not receive the drug died
As doctors and scientists, we look to the data for insight, said Steven Kalkanis, CEO of the Henry Ford Medical Group. And the data here is clear that there was a benefit to using the drug as a treatment for sick, hospitalized patients.
The study, published in the International Society of Infectious Disease, found patients did not suffer heart-related side effects from the drug.
Cutting the death rate in half is a pretty dramatic result. The catch here is that this was not a double-blind, randomized study in which patients were assigned to various treatment groups and then treated without doctors knowing who is in each group. Instead, this is a retroactive look at treatment received by people who entered the hospital system over a period of time. And since treatment groups werent assigned, that means its possible some of the people who did not receive the drug were judged by doctors to be too ill to make it beneficial. Obviously if the sickest patients tend to wind up in the no treatment group its very likely their death rate is going to be higher.
RE: Does this put an end to the anecdotal evidence caca argument?
No it won’t because TRUMP ENDORSED IT.
How many people have died because of the political backlash against Trump?
None in the media dare to call it murder.
Retrospective study. Is that reliable?
It won’t make an appearance in my local newspaper.
RE: Retrospective study. Is that reliable?
I say it is. A retrospective simply means they analyzed REAL CASES where Hydroxycholoroquine was applied in their health system for Covid-19.
Unless, it is fake data ( like the one published in Lancet ),I say it is pretty reliable as it is WITHIN their own hospital system.
It works for me. The only time I have seen where this medicine didn’t work was report from the veterans administration that was quickly found to be incredibly misleading
Why isn’t Elizabeth Warren hollering about this? Isn’t she always complaining about big pharma exploiting us poor peasants?
Now charge all state and federal officials who are impeding the use of this drug with manslaughter.
My sister-in-law works for Henry Ford. She told me that they were using that drug from the very beginning.
BTW, That place was to only place that would attempt a hip replacement for my wife. She had complications with her femur and NOBODY, and I mean NOBODY would touch her.
They did, and its a blessing since she would have been in a wheel chair by now if they had not did it.

Study completely ignored zinc as a key ingredient in treatment - the death rate likely could have decreased to under 10 percent. Also, the doctor said in the earlier thread that treatment should not commence until hospital admission; evidence from other doctors indicates that the tri-cocktail (HCQ+Zn+antibiotic) should be administered as soon as symptoms appear or maybe when the patient receives a positive test.
RE: They did, and its a blessing since she would have been in a wheel chair by now if they had not did it.
This made my day. It looks like we still have hospitals that remember that their main reason for existence is to HEAL patients.
Peasants LOL
Not when God knows how much money is going into each of God knows how many senators’ pockets
we just don’t want to admit it around here and want to make believe electing the right people in November is all that needs to be done.
I don’t want to shoot anybody and I don’t want to get shot at and I don’t want to feel pain and I don’t want to die.
But we have 535 kings and queens is that eventually need to be taken down
Not sure if that 535 number is Right :-)
As the wife and I experienced at HF, they have a can do attitude.
“You fight with us and we will fight for you with everything we got.”
I’m watching the Ingraham Angle right now. The segment discusses this topic and even though this result validates international reports of its efficacy this study omits like ALL US studies omit the ADDITION of Zinc in the study.
Zinc is extremely important here. It is Zinc that makes HCQ effective. Why? Because it is NOT the HCQ that harms the virus. It is the fact that HCQ provides the pathway for Zinc to enter into the virus that prevents the virus from replicating in your body.
If you have a good amount of Zinc in yourself, to begin with, HCQ and Z-Pack will do the trick.
BUT, if you are Zinc Deficient to begin with it will not be nearly as effective. Therefore, the addition of Zinc to the HCQ/Z-Pack treatment is extremely important.
Nearly all US studies to date have been with HCQ alone on patients that needed hospitalization.
Some few have included Z-Pack. All have been with seriously ill victims needing hospitalization. And, NONE have included the addition of Zinc. Why?
Other countries reporting great success are administering all three elements. And, the absolute best results are when the 3 elements are administered early. Not waiting for a patient to need hospitalization. It strongly appears that in the USA Politics and TDS are playing a strong role in this. And, of course, FOLLOW THE MONEY.
The newly developed drug, REMDESIVIR is said to costs MANY THOUSANDS of dollars. HCQ/Z-Pack/Zink a few dollars.
I have family members who have taken HCQ daily for years. No problems.
