Dick Van Dyke just paid tribute to Reiner ... calling him his idol. The legendary actor said Reiner had a "deeper understanding of the human condition" in a warm tribute. Carl Reiner, one of the most prolific entertainers in the history of show business has died ... TMZ has learned.
We're told Reiner died Monday night at his Beverly Hills home. We're told his family was with him when he passed.
Reiner was a producer. He was also a director. He was also an actor. He was also a Grammy winner. He won 9 Emmys in over 7 decades. He has more than 400 credits.

That’ll have a little *wang* to it!
Just because he’s dead doesn’t mean he can’t vote for the Democrat. He can mail in a ballot from hell.
I had thought Carl Reiner had died YEARS ago.
98? Kinda remarkable, at that.
He did have a bit part on “Two and a Half Men” a few years back, but that is the last I recollect of him in any acting part.
A comedy genius that, sadly, brought Meathead into the world.
Mel Brooks will probably be on TV tonight talking about Carl Reiner. Theirs was an awesome collaboration. Mel is the last surviving member of that Team of Comedy Geniuses.
The Dick Van Dyke Show was like a perfect storm of everything working. Dick himself would never be as funny again; they had the Human Joke Machine Morey Amsterdam with former child star Rose Marie; Reiner was funny as the egomaniac TV star with his long suffering brother-in-law Mel (Richard Deacon) and Mary Tyler Moore was brilliantly funny (and smokin' hot) as Laura.
This coming from you is rich. What an ass
Wait a minute Lieutenant, I posted nothing nasty about Reiner. However I am not Mahatma Gandhi, and I should not be shamed into being nice to every dead person.
“A bunch of Christians with absolutely no sense of kindness, decorum or comedic taste.
You should all be ashamed of yourself.
This guy was just another human, a father, and a person.”
Adolf Hitler was just another human and a person.
You correct on that. None of them really had another like that, although Van Dyke did go to do “Diagnosis Murder” later on. None really had another great comedy show.
For my Money Mel Brooks was the real comic genius and writer, some of this pictures stand the test of time comedy wise.
Let’s hope the son didn’t inherit the father’s longevity genes.

Well said. We on the right criticize - and rightly so - those leftists who want to pull down a statue because the person wasnt perfect.
But too many conservatives want to do that exact same thing! Carl Reiner brought joy to millions of people. He was also a WW II veteran. I would hope that G-d blesses him. RIP, sir.
But Reiner wasnt perfect. So many here want to tear him down. Just like those leftists who want to pull down a statue because the person wasnt perfect.
No when the country is at stake.
These people need to be called out in life and death.
Thank you.
For the record, most Christians are not unkind, unsympathetic, or without comedic taste.
I’m a Christian and I thought Carl Reiner was a comedic genius too, because talent is talent, no matter what his/her politics are.
+1
Actually, MTM had a pretty funny show named after her.
I liked “Oh God”, “All of Me”, and “Summer Rental”.
Carl Reiner starred as Walt Whitaker in “The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming.” In addition to the Russians, his nemesis was his unimpressed 8-year old son.
