I notice Reiner’s stuff was mostly crappy failures except for the DVK Show and his movies with Steve Martin.

The Dick Van Dyke Show was like a perfect storm of everything working. Dick himself would never be as funny again; they had the Human Joke Machine Morey Amsterdam with former child star Rose Marie; Reiner was funny as the egomaniac TV star with his long suffering brother-in-law Mel (Richard Deacon) and Mary Tyler Moore was brilliantly funny (and smokin' hot) as Laura.

You correct on that. None of them really had another like that, although Van Dyke did go to do “Diagnosis Murder” later on. None really had another great comedy show.

For my Money Mel Brooks was the real comic genius and writer, some of this pictures stand the test of time comedy wise.

“...Human Joke Machine Morey Amsterdam with former child star Rose Marie...”

I love her, she was my idol as a child. I LOVED the Dick Van Dyke show, but the parts I loved about it were the office scenes. And I love Rose Marie, holding her own with the guys. I’m team Rose Marie, not team Laura!

There’s a good documentary about her life and career that we watched, a person my age didn’t really know her as a child star, so that was all fascinating. And she WAS like her character on the show. She talked about how all the mob guys (who were so much a part of early show biz) thought of her as their sister. She was a right gal, not some floozy dame.

But, anyway, she talked on that show about how she got Morey Amersterdam the part on DVD, and how that made him world famous, and you could tell she was very proud of having done that because world fame was “what he deserved.”
