Margot Robbie is set to lead the charge in a new “Pirates of the Caribbean” film franchise.
Scripted by “Birds of Prey” screenwriter Christina Hodson, the new “Pirates” flick will be female-fronted beginning with Robbie and Hodson, multiple reports on Friday said.
According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), the new “Pirates” should not be considered as a spinoff of the wildly popular Johnny Depp-driven films centered on Captain Jack Sparrow – but is a "wholly original story with new characters" in which inspiration was drawn from the famed Disneyland ride and already has many fans speculating which character Robbie might encompass.

There actually were two well known ones in American history, Ann Bonny and Mary Read. You’d think tapping into that would be compelling but no.
The Pirates story line is worn as thin as my 25 year old’s baby blanket. Time to retire it until...forever.
Laura Croft, Ripley etc. were never real and never could be but at least three generations of children think that they are.

Only a few women can look unbelievably good and pull off sexiness well into and beyond their 40s. They are about as rare as unicorns.
BS. No matter what they say, it is just going to be another “woke” reboot to try and erase whatever was “problematic” about the original.
The character played by Johnny Dep is what made the first Pirates what it was. Have the same movie with a different actor and it’s a worse movie. Have the same movie with a female pirate and it’s unbelievable.
Hey now, leave Ripley out of this. She didn’t pull off any superhero moves or arm wrestle the Space Marines into submission. Her biggest action sequence in all those movies consisted of her showing off her skills at the equivalent of driving a forklift. She was just smart and determined, and those are “super powers” that any woman might actually possess.
The best ‘pirate’ show/movie in recent times was the series ‘Crossbones’.
