This must be that "intersectionality" of which they speak. Wuhan Flu PLUS global warming.
We, including me have become way too dependent on electricity. After the last Hurricane, I was just plain miserable. This despite being well prepared and faring much better than most.
Coronavirus has all the same superpowers as global warming!
Would one of those Generacs help? Thinking of getting one
I design electrical system for the utility companies.
Most guys I know have generators.
It depends where you are located on a particular circuit.
totally ... sitting in the dark (and freezing if winter)with nothing to do but wonder if/when the power might come back on sucks ... we lose our power about once a year for a few hours for various reasons and i decided i was tired of it, so now have a whole-house, natural gas rig (26 horse Honda with Mecc Alte gen head and auto-start) that produces 50amps at 220volts at 5,000 feet altitude ...
It would be a great idea if you can afford it. I had a little 3000 watt which would power my refrigerator or the window unit in my bedroom but not both.
It would not even begin to power my central air/heat.
My radio and small 12 volt TV did much better than I had thought. I had two Stanley 1000 watt jump starters which included all kinds of power takeoffs. When one would get low I would simply plug it into my car as I drove out to Geneva, Al to get gas, etc.
Have not checked the prices. I see alot of them next to houses.
Wonder how many suicides CNN has caused?
For me, got a grill, food stocks, lanterns, batteries, books and an old trim line phone land line! Not fun but no biggy.
Been though this before.
Nice set up. You need a strong chain and lock. Your house will be easy to see at night with your lights on.
the consumer generacs don’t fare too well in reviews and ratings ... i know two people who have them and they NEVER work when needed! engines are chinese junk and parts like controller board are EXTREMELY expensive ..
i got my genset from centralmainediesel.com but built the cart and hookups myself:

This virus seems capable of doing so many things I now covet catching one so I can train it to make my bed and a cup of coffee every morning
I live in the country and my generator would not power my pump. Not too big a problem as I had saved around a hundred gallons of water. I never ran out, but I got power after only 3 days. many people were out for over a month or even longer.
“You need a strong chain and lock. Your house will be easy to see at night with your lights on.”
yeah, i thought about the chain and lock but i live in a VERY good semi-rural neighborhood and am always home when the gen is running anyway ...

Amazing, isn’t it?
It’s amazing the destruction and devastation Trump has brought.
Viruses and hurricanes and no more electricity and locusts and water turning into blood. Who knows what’s coming next?
It’s a complete frontal assault on a president like I’ve not seen nor heard of nor read of in my lifetime
Thank you! Good to know.
Did you rig that up, yourself?
Also...how are you running an entire house, all at the same time, on 50 amps?
A/C, refrigerators, freezers, etc.
One lucky thing is there is a Verizon tower only 300 yards from me. I could use email, phone, internet etc. Verizon restored power after only a day.
One really neat thing was I bought a 12 volt to 120 volt inverter around 20 years ago. It was only 75 watts. I looked up my satellite modem and by sheer luck it was 75 watts.
