Did you rig that up, yourself?
“Did you rig that up, yourself?”
i bought the genset from centralmaindiesel.com, NG ready. you have to add the battery yourself. i bought the biggest unit they had with a honda stationary engine (26 nominal horsepower at sea-level and gasoline-fired), because at my altitude of 5,000 feet, you have to derate the nominal power about 15% and then derate it ANOTHER 15% because NG is that much less powerful than gasoline ...
i built the cart and removable roof and made the 60 amp “extension cord” with twist locks myself, and did the NG plumbing myself (1” all the way from outside oversized meter as it takes a LOT of NG to run that puppy). NG pipe ends with quick connect right inside the garage door, and i bought the 1” NG gas hose pre-made, permanently connected one end to the getset and added the quick connect to the other end.
I paid an electrician to help me run the 60 amp cable from the main panel to right inside of the garage door as well.
the main panel has a manual, mechanical interconnect between the main breaker to the outside power and the breaker to where the genset plugs in from the garage, so that only one of those two breakers can be on at any given time. i rigged a red LED across the main power legs that power the main panel from the outside so i can see when the main power comes back on so i know when to disconnect the genset ...
i store the genset under a dust cover inside the heated garage, with the battery connected to a trickle charger, so even in the worst of the winter, that big boy is toasty warm, the battery charged up, and it starts instantly at the push of a button ...
it takes about 15 minutes to unlimber it, connect the gas hose and “extension cable”, roll it outside and start it up, and flip the breakers ...
