7.7 MILLION people have signed the Justice for Breonna Taylor Petition
Change.org ^ | June 20th | RandFan

Posted on 06/20/2020 10:56:44 AM PDT by RandFan

Breonna Taylor was an award-winning EMT and model citizen. She loved her family and community, working at two hospitals as an essential worker during the pandemic.

Nearly four months ago, a division of the Louisville Police Department performed an illegal, unannounced drug raid on her home. Not a single officer announced themselves before ramming down her door and firing 22 shots, shooting Breonna 8 times, killing her.

Not only were the police at the WRONG HOUSE, but the man they were looking for had already been arrested earlier that day.

1. Charges must be filed immediately. The officers involved, specifically John Mattingly, Brett Hankison, Myles Cosgrove, and any other law enforcement officer involved in the death and coverup of the death of Breonna Taylor must be fired, charged, and arrested immediately. There have been no charges thus far (it has been nearly 4 months). Their pensions must be revoked.

2. Her family must be paid in damages for wrongful death and the negligence of the LMPD.

3. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear must speak up on behalf of Breonna, and Governor Beshear or Attorney General Daniel Cameron must appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the Louisville Police Department immediately. An in-house investigation is unacceptable.

4. The "no-knock" warrant that police had used in Breonna's murder completely violates the constitutional rights to reasonable search and seizure. By law, police must be legally obligated to announce themselves before breaking and entering into a home privately owned by American civilians. Legislation to federally ban no-knock warrants must be passed in Congress and signed by the President; what happened to Breonna was a complete violation of her constitutional rights, and threatens the rights of all American citizens. Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky has voiced similar concerns. A special session must be intervened by Congress to discuss the constitutionality of no-knock warrants immediately.

This has carried on for over three months. For weeks, the city treated Breonna like she was a criminal, calling her a “suspect” before finally admitting that she was an innocent, crimeless victim. She had no drugs. She committed no crime.

Yet, she is dead, and the perpetrators are facing no charges.

She was not only an exemplary citizen, but an essential one. She was a daughter, a friend, an American hero, and most importantly, a person. She deserved to be treated as such.

Let’s get justice for Breonna. Say her name.

PLEASE help me get the word out, and share this campaign on your social media platforms. Thank you to everyone who is helping in our fight to get justice for Breonna.

Illegal and unannounced? If the warrant was signed by a judge then it was *very* probably legal.

I have a son that’s a cop.

The thing he dreads the MOST is being called for a no-knock raid. He hasn’t yet, because they are just VERY unpopular among the police here, but they are still conducted in the larger cities.

Police reform ITEM NUMBER ONE should be to FORBID NO-KNOCK RAIDS!

Louisville.

Mayor: Democrat.

Metro Council: 26 seats total. Democrats hold 19, Republicans hold 7.

I was going to look up the political leadership of the county in which Louisville is located, but Jefferson County has been "consolidated" with Louisville, so the Mayor of Louisville also runs the county.

And the congressman is John Yarmouth (D) I believe. He’s totally hopeless and been in office forever.

I can only imagine how your son feels.

Apparently, they are occasionally needed when a suspect may try to destroy valuable evidence.

Perhaps different measures should be in place. Reevaluate SOP for those few times they go that route.

This type of incident is what folks should be marching against.

She was murdered without a doubt for no reason.

I appreciate this post.
It’s not getting nearly the amount of attention it should.

Amen.

Recognizing there’s still information out there, I can’t imagine any scenario where it’s justified when someone gets shot and killed while asleep in their own home.

Even Raylan Givens would be protesting.

I appreciate the intent here, but the LMPD should follow the law, not the dictates of a petition.

The problem is their trying to cover it up and won’t produce the warrant or any other material.

Exactly. But she’s hardly the only one.

Lots of innocent people have been killed over the years via no-knock raids. Just like this case some have been at the wrong address or with incorrect information.

This should have been dealt with many years ago.

They wont produce the warrant. They claimed to have lost it!

It's pretty clear they initially intended to sweep this case under the rug. Apparently, the only "evidence" used in the warrant request to justify the no knock raid on Breonna's house was that they observed another suspect picking up a USPS package from Breonna's porch. What Judge would approve a no knock warrant for this? Apparently, Judge Mary M Shaw does. In fact, she approved all 5 no knock warrant requests for that night in 12 minutes. Rubber Stamp.

Add in that the detective appears to have lied about the "package evidence", and has been "reassigned pending investigation".

"A detective wrote in an affidavit that he'd seen Glover leave Taylor's apartment about two months before with a USPS package before driving to a "known drug house." The detective wrote that he then verified "through a US Postal Inspector" that Glover had been receiving packages at Taylor's address.

A U.S. postal inspector in Louisville, however, told WDRB News Friday that LMPD didn't use his office to verify that Glover was receiving packages at Taylor's apartment. Postal inspector Tony Gooden told WDRB that a different agency had asked in January to look into whether Taylor's home was receiving suspicious mail, but that the office had concluded it wasn't. "There's no packages of interest going there," Gooden told the news outlet.

It is peculiar that this case isn’t the catalyst that Floyd’s was... but I suppose it may just be the video in the Floyd case that makes the difference ...and location.

It’s a ridiculous blanket statement to say there should be no no-knock raids.

Narcotics dealers aren’t particular friendly when they get a knock and besides getting rid of evidence they can grab their guns.

Would they do something so stupid?

Many MS13 members would open up fire in a NY minute.

As is the whole fallacy of policemen murdering folks left and right, it is based on a few incidents out of how many?

Numbers matter. Stats matter.

It is terrible this happened. Whoever fired without seeing someone holding a weapon should be charged and her family should get remuneration.

But you’re looking for perfect and that’s a communist ideal. Perfect distribution, perfect harmony and other lies..That’s why communism is a disaster and a horror.

1. Why did the police fire 22 shots?

2. Without seeing the warrant, how do we know this was the wrong house (without 20/20 hindsight)?

3. Did the judge who signed the warrant ask if the cops knew for sure that the perp was at the listed address? Did the cops lie, or not do due diligence, or is the judge a liberal hack?

I, too, am against no-knock raids. Wait until the perp leaves the house and then grab him.
