I had a doctor's appointment today and due to the China Virus, I had a scheduled E-Visit. Meaning a video doctor appointment.
I have had a couple of these over the last few months and had an app. that worked just fine, but today, my referred doctor refused an appointment with me because I would not install Zoom on my phone.
I have had other appointments via video and no problems.
Why would a doctor make a patient add an app to their phone who completely is not trusting of the app when other doctors use the approved app for their services and are in the same health system.
It could be the referred doctor is having trouble with other methods. Or it could be a power trip or a convenience thing for them.
Ten bucks says that he’s following the advise of his lawyer.
Youre making too big a deal of this. Install Zoom and get it over with.
“...my referred doctor refused an appointment with me because I would not install Zoom ...”
Is he Chinese?
Look at it this way, Zoom runs on multiple platforms.
Someone wanted to “Facetime” me on something until I explained that I have an Android phone which doesn’t support Facetime. His “option” was to use Whatsapp. He got REAL confused and gave up when I said I wasn’t looking for a random hookup.

You can then order Chinese, I will not with my healthcare and I can get the same care with other doctors within the system without using Zoom.
my thoughts are that if your medical condition worsened (Lord forbid!) you could sue that doctor
I feel your pain. I just got a bill from my Dr for a phone call she made to me back in April just to let me know my bone scan was in and did I want to go ahead with the shots she was recommending. She filed it with Medicare as a tele-med office visit! She never let me know it was considered an office visit. She wanted $98 for it!!

YES!

Then why are other doctors in the same health system using a different app?

So now installation of Zoom (or the next thing) is a requirement for health care ?
My company forbids us from installing Zoom on corporate laptops, due to security concerns.
I would think the same concerns would apply to medical information going over Zoom.
I had a 25 year health care career and you’d be surprised how influential lawyers are in health care.
Oh heck, what about people like my mother, what have neither a computer nor a cell phone?
the app hcppa requirements are changing on a day to day basis.

I pay attention to hospital bills. ALWAYS...
My wife’s last six months of her life were billed at $4.3 million. I kept a clipboard on every nurse’s entry and what they were doing.
She was dying and they wanted to put her on a nicotine patch even though she was not coherent.
I fought. I got the Charge Nurse and the Floor Nurse to be the only ones to take care of her. I watched everything that they did. When she passed - I paid less than $200k.
I did the same for my mother when she was sick and dying.
You have to fight. Do not take their first, second, third, or any other answer until you get the care you and your loved one deserved.
Systems don’t really matter. It’s the office. What do they have? What is the doc comfortable with. He’s good with Zoom, use Zoom. They moved end to end encryption down to the free version. Not a big deal. I had to work with a partner this week. They used a particular screen sharing app I’d never heard of before. I’ve got like 4 other screen sharing apps, not to mention there’s a few web based ones. But no point to argue, installed it, got the job done. If you really hate the app you can always delete it when you’re done.
He wants to use one app and it is Zoom. I have 3 different doctors using 3 different apps.
Don’t want Zoom? You don’t get the service.
Capitalism at work.
So install zoom. I had it on the PC not phone, but if that is what he is using, thats his choice. Go somewhere else.
