a suspected suicidal father drove his truck off the ledge at Sunset Cliffs with his two-year-old twin daughters inside early Saturday.
"He had driven off the end of a 50-foot cliff and was upside down in the water, said officer Jonathan Wiese, now deemed a hero after he jumped in the water to rescue the girls.

the twin two-year-olds were taken without permission by their father and their mother received numerous calls and texts that she would never see them again."My thought is how do I get down there. There are no stairs, there is no easy way. My first thought was jump but I'm afraid of heights," said Wiese.
The former U.S. Marine Corpsman grabbed his 100-foot dog leash and other officers on the scene helped lower him to the water.
The only non-crushed area of the car was the drivers seat compartment, so had those girls been in a car seat in the back, they would have most likely been killed," Wiese said.

Brians is facing a list of charges, including attempted murder and kidnapping. He is due in court on June 30.

My connection is spotty today. I did not see them.
Maybe youre thinking of the lesbian couple:
Monday, March 26, 2018, Jennifer and Sarah Hart, and six of their children died when an SUV driven by Jennifer Hart drove over a 100-foot (30 m) cliff on Highway 1, in Mendocino County, California, near Westport.

Well done, Marine.
Semper Fidelis, Semper Paratus.
Dam police. Who needs them? Two little girls if you needed a for instance.
Shhh. Don’t want the national media to lead with this story.
Don’t worry. They won’t.
Of course it’s always good luck when a [former] Marine just happens to be right on hand, who has with him, and really knows how to use, a 100 foot dog leash. Talk about God watching out for people.
Yes, your response is exactly correct!
I can’t imagine what horror drove the father to do this but at the end, he tried to save his children. The officer is a true hero.
The father must be punished, of course, but no one does such an awful thing without an equally awful reason. He is mentally ill and needs our prayers as much as our condemnation.
He will spend every day of his life hating himself. The officer should spend every day of his life thanking God for the gifts that allowed him to rescue the girls.
WHERE did this happen?
“OK, thats a German Shepherd leash, not a Chihuahua leash”
And it was a 100-foot leash. That explains to me how it could be used for rapelling down that cliff.
I don’t see how anyone survived that airborne crash into the rocks below.
Well done, Marine!

Yep. Those 100 foot dog leashes are made of steel cable.
I’d forgotten about them....!
What a horrible life time mental burden for the two girls; knowing their father tried to kill them while taking his own life.
I think you are conflating Susan Smith, who had two or three children iirc, with that post-partum psychosis woman in Texas around the same time who drowned her five children in the bathtub. Sorry; too busy to look them up today.
Read the thread. Lots of other people beat you to the correction.
You are all correct.
Great link!
Thanks for posting the info that they are all expected to recover (physically, at least)
