While looking for his Frisbee, a Tampa Bay man was bit in the face by an alligator, says police

Local wildlife officials are searching for an alligator that bit a man directly in the face.

Largo Police Department spokesman Lt. Scott Gore told Creative Loafing Tampa Bay that Travis Spitzer was in waist-deep water at Taylor Lake on Friday, June 12, at around 5 a.m. looking for Frisbees when the gator bit him in the face.

“He used his left hand to pry himself free and as a result had lacerations to his face and hand, said Gore. “He was transported for medical care and is expected to recover. FWC is responding for the gator.”

The incident comes as Florida is at the peak of alligator mating season, which often runs from May to July depending on temperatures. During this period, it’s not uncommon to see gators roaming around and being more active, says the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Pretty dumb to be looking for a Frisbee in alligator waters. Frisbees don’t cost that much.

A couple of members of the Kennedy family died recently going into the water to retrieve a ball.

Every body of water in Florida that is larger than a mud puddle has alligators in it. When we took a tour of Kennedy Space Center years ago, there were hundreds of alligators in every drainage ditch, even just a few feet from the edge of the visitor center parking lot.

Listing alligators as an endangered species had a lot to do with the current overpopulation.

There is something fishy about searching for a Frisbee at 0500 in an alligator pit.

If a tree falls on your ex wife in the forest and nobody is around to hear it................you should still probably get rid of the chainsaw.

Even the gators are getting into the whole riot thing. Hey, that would make for a good, schlocky SyFy Channel movie: Antifagator. You ain’t mean if you ain’t green.

only reason i can see for this, is that this is a lake on a frisbee golf course, and he’s looking for frisbees people lost and weren’t able to find that went in the lake.

I worded that poorly. I meant that we probably saw hundreds of alligators during our drive into KSC, distributed across a number of ditches. But they truly were everywhere there, and there were more than I could probably count in the ditches just a few feet beyond the edge of the parking lot. That, in particular, was pretty shocking since there were many within easy range of a small child if they were to wander for even a few seconds.

We were in a bus, so it was easy to look down into the ditches and ponds, and the ditches were truly just full of them.

And BTW, according to endangered.org alligators removed from the endangered species list in 1987.

Creative Loafing could make the New York Times look like a very very very conservative paper. It is one of these free weekly that has adult ads in it. The restaurant reviews are the best things in the paper.
