The Democrats' new $3 trillion coronavirus relief legislation expands direct payment eligibility to many more people than last time, including undocumented immigrants who pay taxes.
Each eligible person would receive $1,200 stimulus checks, up to $6,000 per household, according to the newly released legislation.
For example, a married couple filing taxes jointly would receive $2,400. They would get an additional $1,200 for each of their dependents, up to three, for a maximum benefit of $6,000.
Under the first round of checks, eligible individuals got a one-time payment of up to $1,200, or $2,400 per couple, plus $500 for each child up to age 16.
Those terms frustrated many progressives, led by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., by excluding many college-aged kids from ages 17 to 24, as well as undocumented immigrants who paid taxes.
The new round of legislation that's set for a vote in the House on Friday aims to change the "shortcomings" of the initial round of payments, House Democrats say.
College students, non-child dependents and immigrants who pay taxes would also be eligible to receive the $1,200 payment. In addition, families could receive retroactive $500 dependent payments they missed out on last time, according to a House aide.

Republicans won’t pass legislation that authorizes money to be paid directly to illegal aliens. This is just a political document.

It's not just progressives. I've been frustrated watching this as well. A great many college students didn't get a stimulus check because parents still claimed them but the parent got no extra money yet the students lost jobs and couldn't qualify for unemployment.
I've been fortunate enough to be able to help someone unrelated to me who fell through the virus safety net while his mother couldn't. But it isn't my responsibility and I can't replace that income forever. We all at a point of frustration right now.
This was a major miss in the first round.

College kids working are still eligible for unemployment if they arent really part time, just not the stimulus checks. But with an extra $600/wk, most people are still flush with cash. My parents are making 50% more not working right now, it’s just nuts. And my dad is dying to go back to work.
QE from hell, oil patch slammed in to the ground, businesses broke or going broke, over $7 trillion of borrowed money printed and NOW more on the way, huge unemployment, etc.
I’ve had money in the stock market for a long time but last week I took it all out.
Why not 30-trillion and 60,000 for every household? Or 300-trill and 600K?

My daughter and 20 yr old granddaughter who is attending university and still lives at home.
It also gives them amnesty.
