The antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine has shown mixed results against the coronavirus in early studies, but a new paper out of New York suggests combining it with the dietary supplement zinc sulfate could create a more effective treatment.
The research by the NYU Grossman School of Medicine was posted on a medical preprint site on Monday, meaning it hasn't yet been peer reviewed.
Records of about 900 COVID-19 patients were reviewed in the analysis, with roughly half given zinc sulfate along with hydroxychloroquine and the antibiotic azithromycin.
The other half only received hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin.
Those receiving the triple-drug combination had a 1.5 times greater likelihood of recovering enough to be discharged, and were 44 percent less likely to die, compared to the double-drug combination.
It did not, however, change the average time patients spent in hospital (six days), the time they spent on the ventilator (five days), or the total amount of oxygen required.
Senior investigator and infectious disease specialist Joseph Rahimian told AFP it was the first study to compare the two combinations.
But he cautioned that a controlled experiment would be needed to prove the benefits beyond doubt.
"The next logical step would be to do a prospective study to see if this holds up in people that you give zinc to, and then you watch and compare," he said.

And there you have it. Almost half the deaths we've seen could have been prevented if Fauci hadn't stepped in to scold the President and feed the press and leftist governors urge to stick it to Trump by denying sick people medicine that works.

They did not have to reinvent the wheel. Right around NYU’s backyard ( upstate NY, NYC and NJ ) are doctors that have been using the HQC + Azythromycin + Zinc successfully for at least 2 months!
All they needed to do is consult with them and REPLICATE their successes.
Medical people are so smart they’re STUPID. The ORIGINAL PROTOCOL is to give the 3-part combo AT THE FIRST SIGN OF SYMPTOMS. THEY KILLED MORE PEOPLE through this “study” instead of giving the combo to to EVERYONE ASAP. YES, I’m DISGUSTED with the medical profession right now!

EARLY !! That was the recommendation of ALL successful doctors who have actually used the HCQ cocktail in REAL CASES ( e.g. Dr. Zelenko ).
Somehow, this important condition seems to have fallen of deaf ears when they do formal patient studies.
Zinc is apparently in red wine, which has given some Europeans an edge in this treatment.
I have a close relative who’s a doc, with a strong recommendation for HCQ + Zpac.

He was asked this question. Cuomo’s response was nobody is being denied Hydroxycholorquine, however, you have to take it only under supervision WHEN IN A HOSPITAL.
The problem is the HCQ cocktail is MOST EFFECTIVE ( in fact in the case of Dr. Zelenko, close to 100% effective ) IN PREVENTING hospitalizations.
The science is now on Trump’s side and those Govs should be charged with manslaughter if they continue to make laws stopping its usage.
That’s nice, now how about a study the begins the drug cocktail EARLY in the diagnosis?!?!?!?
