The NFL has spent the pandemic proceeding as if football will kick off as normal this fall. But despite the three-day virtual draft, despite the mega-hyped, fixed-date schedule release, despite all the public-facing optimism, the truth is this: The NFL isn’t in charge here. COVID-19 is.
That’s the conclusion of Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institutes for Health and the leading authoritative voice on COVID-19 in America. Speaking to NBC’s Peter King this weekend, Fauci did not mince words: If the country is at the point in September where we are right now, there will be no season.
“Right now, if you fast forward, and it is now September,” he said. “The season starts. I say you can’t have a season — it’s impossible.

I could give a rat’s patootie for the NFL but, like you, I despise this miniature dictator even more.
I’m worried about our local sports. We have a great minor league baseball team just up the road. Friday and Saturday nights are a blast at the ballpark! Our Sussex County Miners maintained first place status for the entire season last year, only to lose the championship series by a heartbreaker. Their season is set to start this month, but it won’t. I hope they, and the league, can survive until it’s “safe” to play again.
Less than an hour from home sits the oldest continually operating dirt track in the U.S. Orange County Fair Speedway is a 5/8-mile dirt track that has seen some awesome racing through the years. They have been pouring money into physical improvements to the track, grandstands, and buildings. No one has any idea when the first green flag will fly.
I was disappointed to learn that the XFL has folded. That league was just starting to get good, and I considered actually attending a game or two this season.
I’m not a die hard sports fan, but getting out to a game or a race is always a fun evening.
This mandatory physical separation is un-natural, and will not be tolerated for much longer. Cabin fever in the dead of winter is one thing. Being locked up in warm weather is another.

-fans entering the football stadium sign a waiver that they won't sue the team if they contract COVID19. They pay full price for tickets and food etc BUT they get a voucher entitling them to a $150 credit on their State income tax.
-fans entering the baseball stadium also sign the waiver but pay half price for the ticket and full price for food etc. but must sit 6 feet away from each other as they watch the game on the Jumbotron; no tax voucher,
-fans entering the indoor basketball venue get the same deal as those entering the baseball venue BUT they must wear masks. Let's see just how scared people are, let the market sort it out, and generate revenue and employment as we see which venue gets more fans.

Wrong. The NFL needs to realize that some Democrat governors and mayors won't open up until after the November election in their zeal to hurt Trump.
The NFL needs to approach the season as if the Northeast, Northwest, California, Illinois and Michigan are closed to business and find alternate neutral sites. Since many college football sites will probably be shut down, the NFL can lease out stadiums in Republican-run locations to serve as neutral sites in place of any NFL stadiums that are shut down.
You could see NFL games in places like Omaha, NE, Boise, ID, Birmingham, AL, College Station, TX, etc. where the field is probably available and will be up to NFL standards for tv and hotel space.
