New York state is reporting more than 1,700 previously undisclosed deaths at nursing homes and adult care facilities as the state faces scrutiny over how it's protected vulnerable residents during the coronavirus pandemic.
At least 4,813 people have died from COVID-19 in the state's nursing homes since March 1, according to a tally released by Governor Andrew Cuomo's administration late Monday that, for the first time, includes people believed to have been killed by the coronavirus before their diagnoses could be confirmed by a lab test.
Exactly how many nursing home residents have died remains uncertain despite the state's latest disclosure, as the list doesn't nursing home residents who were transferred to hospitals before dying. The revised list shows that 22 nursing homes, largely in New York City and Long Island, have reported at least 40 deaths.
Parker Jewish Institute in Queens and Isabella Geriatric Center - one of New York City's largest nursing homes with 705 beds - have reported the highest number of deaths: 71 and 64, respectively.

Sounds like NYS. has achived the results they were looking for, I just have to wonder how many of the elderly that died in NYS. care facilities were wards of the state.

Some questions I’d like answered...
1) Percentage of dual eligible, Medicare/Medicaid, WuFlu patients sent back to nursing homes vs percentage of Medicare, Medicare/MediGap.
2) Mortality rates for dual eligible WuFlu patients vs mortality rates for those with other insurance.
Also, why were confirmed positive staff allowed to work in nursing homes up until last week, when the state changed its mind and thought better of it.
Democrats, Governor, Andrew Cuomo & NYC Mayor Bill De Blasio should be arrested and forced to ride every night in the New York Subway system among and amid all the Homeless dregs that now contaminate the once magnificent NYC subway system. Let the two of them exist on the feces and urine....supplied by the legions of Homeless who now call the NYC Subway system, “Home Sweet Home”
Of course, any New Yorker with half a brain will not be riding the subway for obvious safety and health reasons!!!
And were NYS Medicaid costs the real reason sick patients were returned to their nursing homes even though Fedzilla had relaxed the regs to allow homes to refuse if needed.

I’m glad my brother’s family is able to live on the family farm in NY with my mom. Being in “a home” now would be a problem, since she’s 96.
My friend’s mother, also 96, is in assisted living and has done great for a few years. With family unable to provide that personal social outlet (daily visits), she declined into full dementia within six weeks’ time (Not in NY.)
